I always let them have 1-2 funny shots, and then a serious, and maybe a couple more funny ones. and so on----

smaller kids are harder, of course, but talk w the parents and let them know you want them to stay ion place NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS - and to trust you...
I have seen my assistant use "FREEZE TAG" and it works most of the time...
they smile, and she touches them with a feather, and says "FREEZE" and then she snaps it, and then unfreezes them....

gotta say - wireless shutters and fast reload lights are wonderful :)
lol

(I am reminiscing back in the film days also...good times...LOL

so you get the experiance, and hopefully the credit?

you cant even use these on your own site to say you had done them? as examples?

i would say yes if you were getting paid, but you stated your not -

get something, because right now you stand to get nothing in return

if you really care about them as friends, then go for it - but if they care about you, they should bend a bit or at least pay you..

that my H.O.

John - what if you did that to everyones and showed them -

then the second one with the real heads would look great!

LOL

I am so glad you asked this questio - I, too, was wondering the same.
I recently had an on-location shoot and agree the white was too plain. Even with poinsettas.
(I even considered replacing the background in PS)
Perhaps a golden master, or greenish blue, or reddish grey?
There are some cheap topieries at places (fake), and maybe someone you know has a plush chair (like a santa one?) and one person can sit in it and others stand around?
(my mind is thinking of some classic 50's photos)

I am interested in the responses to your very good question....

when i lived in NYC, I applied to some ads looking for photographers. It was on CL. I didnt think I would get it, but thought if I didnt try - I would never know.

I did get it :)

Apply to many things, contests, etc. Just be sure to read the fine print. Some say they own the pic even after you don't "win". Be careful.

-

you could always select the kids, remove the background completely, and place them in front of a fireplace or something...

-

yea - ditto -

make a package of both sizes....then they wont lose quality when they do it themselves.

not everyone has the ability to resize correctly

-

but it cant just be a verbal promise, or hint...

get it in writing.

-

i recently resized some for 8x10 printing at 300-330

the rez is all i changed

I know what it means , which is why I said the above - they own them--------meaning the company.....

thanks-

-

most high end photographers work for a WORK FOR HIRE - which means they own them anyway - if you have the correct lights, you should be alright.

ask for creative approval or somethign in case your worried---

-

Dave - that made me chuckle - none of your business...I can only imagine that coming from people..considering it is just that - your business...LOL
you never know with ppl though :)
I also agree, after thought, drop the edits. If they have the image, they will edit it anyway - your right dave.

might be a good idea to go to the home owner and offer a print (in hand) and explain -

they may LOVE a picture of it....and then from there they can tell their friends

Hi -

I recently set me home studio up, and travel with it as well. I use for a key light a SUNPAK AUTO 383 and a brolly box. You can also look up "DIY PHOTOGRAPHY" on youtube - lost of ideas there. My brolly only cost me 23.00. Also, the attchament to the light stand; So : LIGHTSTAND 16-28 Brolly 25-100 Attachment for stand: 19.00 (swivel head so I can lay it flay into the brolly...

Good luck :)

ps - also look into beauty dishes for portraits...

You shouldn’t let them edit them - specially if they dont have the experience you do.

How about a retainer fee, with monthly or quarterly payments? You can word it as;

"These are the services that will be provided in a monthly fee of $XXX.00"

Dont be afraid to ask what he has as a budget - then you can see if it is even worth your time negotiating at all....

I wont go into a store asking for shoes if they only sell hamburgers....If he isnt willing to pay ANYTHIGN close, then you should not try to get the WHOLE package - but maybe you can work something else in...?

Repeat work that is guaranteed is great!

good idea

also, you have a great yellow mustard wall - use that...or a nice white backdrop -

very pretty dresses

"so her body is exactly proportianant"

I meant NOT EXACTLY..sorry-

and I also went higher angles on some of them for the slimming effect...

Hello-

I had a photoshoot this weekend in my studio. The subject was a larger woman and wanted some normal, and some glam shots. I did both, but I felt limited to just about 4-5 poses. Some of my family members are also larger than I am. I would like to learn how to pose larger people (men and women) more effectively. There are allot of beautiful people out there, of all sizes. I would like to learn to enhance that in the photos.
What I did; (short text)

45 degree sitting to camera, 45 deg standing, weight on back leg, tight facials, bust shots, a few full body with a free flowing dress that came out nicely---

She wanted some on the ground, and she laid down, spread her hair out, and they didnt come out like I had hoped for. She has lost a big amount of weight recently, so her body is exactly proportianant. I couldnt get her to look pleasantly wihtout looking rolled out ---hard to explain...

Anyone have any samples, or can direct me to some in case I come across this again?

Thanks!

I wonder what it would look like with the main image selected with magic wand (the attaching one), and then slightly G. Blur the background?

I also like the tighter cropping, because her arm looks cut off - unless it REALLY is - then I feel bad for saying that :)

ar eyou selling your art framed>?

I just came home from one - and editing photos as i type..

Since the person running it did not put me in any advertising, I made nothing. So, that is my tip for you. Make sure you have advertising :)

People going to art fairs don't usually spend 115 on one item, unless its a LARGE item. Unfortunately, they dont think of wall art that way...I think if you had it matted and framed you could do 90-115 - easy....
