Great portrait. The imperfections on the skin bring this picture to life and distinguish it from boring pictures of models whose skin is covered by paint. I think this is the best of your published portraits in your gallery. I also like that you avoided the 35mm format in favor of a near square one.

Superb composition. I would hang this on my wall.

An excellent example of what can be achieved using non-traditional formats. I wished more people would forget the 35mm 3:2 aspect ratio and discover what can be done this way. The bright yellow field on your picture together with the diagonal direction of everything really makes this an outstanding composition.

A class above your Fort Mahon - Abstract 1. The more subdued colors and the square format make the picture stand out.

Well composed with the sunlit cliffs are set up against the ones in the shade. It gives great depth of field and makes the picture interesting. - Where are the rainbow cliffs?

Your B/W version is interesting and pretty dramatic, probably more artistic than mine. What intrigued me with my picture was the bright red roof which I could not resist.

What is "light painting"? This picture could have been much better if you had not cut off the torch. But I understand: There was probably not enough time for proper positioning and you had to take what you could get.

I understand that when you take snapshots you sometimes must be fast and can't pay attention to details. This seems to have happened in this picture because the feet of the tourists are cut off. It still is a nice photo, however.

As far as rules are concerned: Who made them? Good is what pleases, and this picture does indeed please and has drama. A reminder: The Academie Fran硩se had rules for the composition of paintings, which led to many rather boring pictures. Then the Impressionists came along and violated them all. They were not allowed into the Academie's exhibitions but had to have their own. As everyone knows, ultimately they had success and today collectors and museums are killing themselves to get their pictures.

A fun composition. Great colors and unique approach.

Wow, I wouldn't have dared to go to the extent you did. A wonderful photo, worth of National Geographic Magazine.

The bright triangle at the left bottom of your picture is detracting from the overall beauty of your picture. I played with it and darkened it and also cropped along the bottom edge of the second boat from the right and felt this would improve your picture. But it you to judge.

This picture proves that good motives are everywhere. In addition to the strong geometric pattern I like the shine of the colors. How did you accomplish that??

Alberta: I did look around to find a better angle, but didn't. I liked the complementary colors of the blue sky and the orange pumpkins. Thanks for commenting (I like critique rather than rating) and please have a look at my portfolio from all over the World. I am sure you will like some and not so others.

Alberta: Thanks for your critique. I value it. But this time I disagree with your comment about depth of field. My intention is to make the yellow leaves the main subject of this picture and a sharp background and depth of field would only detract from this objective. Actually, you will find in many of my pictures that I have the habit (style?) to compress the motives by using long tele zoom settings, rather than showing a scene with lots of things around the main motive. There are many ways to skin a cat, and this is my way. Nevertheless, your critique is always welcome. Cheers.

Your picture is just right. I played with it and couldn't do anything that would make it better. As far as ratings go: There are a lot of jokers who rate every single picture they can get their hands on as a 3/3. I have learned to ignore these low ratings which almost always are anonymous and pay attention to ratings, good or bad, from people who let their names known. And I tend to check their portfolios to see whether their work qualifies for giving ratings. Yours does.

When I saw the thumb print of this picture, I knew you were up to something good. But when I tried to see the picture in full on my screen I had to scroll. So to appreciate it fully (no pun intended), I had to copy it to Photoshop and then view it on my screen. Please do us a favor: size pictures for this forum to be no larger than 750px horizontal and 450px vertical. That way we can enjoy them without additional contortions.
