Perhaps because there is a rule of thirds saying so?

Is it compulsory to folllow the rules?

Can't we allow our senses to dictate our impressions rather than let academic rules (that are designed, only, as guidelines and not as obligations) govern our lives and artistic creations?

Coming to photographic rules, in this perfectly composed photograph,IMMO, the rule of thirds have been expertly respected, because there is a big swash of light that divides the frame in two halves from upper right corner to lower left corner. The car and its headlights-one unit- is placed im the lower part of that swash.

And the image, as a consequence, has great impact and great movement.

But, of course, this is just the humble opinion of an ignorant poor amateur in matters of photography as myself...

As far as rules are concerned: Who made them? Good is what pleases, and this picture does indeed please and has drama. A reminder: The Academie Fran硩se had rules for the composition of paintings, which led to many rather boring pictures. Then the Impressionists came along and violated them all. They were not allowed into the Academie's exhibitions but had to have their own. As everyone knows, ultimately they had success and today collectors and museums are killing themselves to get their pictures.
