I wouldn't have used flash. The lighting is too bright and frontal, and you can see the reflection in her eyes. If possible, put a halogen lamp beside her, outside of the shot, of course, and then turn on the lights in an adjacent room, or dim the lights in the room if possible. That should eliminate the need for flash and add some interesting sidelighting. I do the same thing with still lifes.

There's nothing really wrong with it, but it's an uninteresting shot. Composition is nothing special, and the lighting is too diffuse to really be interesting.

This shot could go in national geographic. Gret composition and restricted depth of field. It's a really intriguing portrait.

Nice! Your focus seems a bit off, or maybe the camera shook a little, but aside from that, it's very good. You got just the right angle and light.
  1. Wow, thanks for all the rating and critiques, guys! I was really not expecting an average photo like this to get so much exposure(ha ha) in, what, two hours? I like the focus too. f/22, doncha know. I agree about the contrast - in retrospect it would have been good to have some sidelighting.

The photo itself is not bad at all, but what's with that awful grain texture? It makes it impossible to see details. Methinks you need to shoot at higher megapixels.
