I'm still trying to figure this out myself. Are these "markers" actually the top and bottom cut-outs in the 50mm brightline? Otherwise, I don't see anything else in my M3 viewfinder.

Bryan, I just sent you an email. I am interested in getting a strap.
Thank you.

Josh, is that a lenspen strapped on your other hand?

As had already been suggested, you might want to try a cheap second hand rangefinder at first. I started with Yashica Lynx 1000. But if you relly want a Leica, and it won't hurt you financially, then I would consider if having AE (aperture priority) is important to you. If it is, get the M7. If you're comfortable going completely manual in setting exposure, then you should be very happy with the MP.

Focusing a RF can take some time to learn, so don't expect to capture those "decisive moments" like a pro right away. But it's this very discipline that is required to shoot a RF effectively, that eventually allows you to experience a freedom in your picture making that an SLR will never give you.

I don't know how your 3 year-old Tri-X will do, but I'm sure much better than this 50+year-old roll I just got hold of. It's still sealed in it's factory box. :)

Yongfei Lin, I just discovered this thread and quickly read through it. All I can say is that I offer you my encouragement and applause for the work you are doing. Keep it up, my friend!

Arthur, that is a beautiful camera you have there. I don't think I would ever care to make that kind of investment
towards my IIIf RD, but I really enjoy seeing the results when someone else decides to do it.
Joneycake mentioned Leica being the only manufacturer that has made an upgradable camera. In a sense, Leica
HAS contined this with the M8. What other camera do you know where you can get a shutter upgrade? That alone is
amazing for any camera manufacturer in this day and age.

I got my first version of PS that way. Adobe will often offer this to Element owners through an email, or if you're fortunate enough to hear it from someone else. A good reason to register your Elements and opt to recieve their emails!
I've never seen Adobe actually advertise this offer. The great thing for many of us (as it was for me) is that I never had to even pay for Elements, since it had come with an Epson scanner I purchased.

Thanks for your help, Garrison. I have two slots which now house two 1GB DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300). When I check out the Crucial.com webite, I am told that I can't use any more than 2gigs of RAM in this laptop, a Gateway MT6451. Are you saying that I could use more? And with my processor, PS CS3 would run faster?
I know there's a lot of controversy about Vista, but I have had absolutely no problems with Vista Home Premium.
-
Thanks everyone. It seems that my best bet is to keep using my laptop the way it is, and to just be concerned with Vista 64-bit when I get a desktop that allows more room for RAM.
There is one more thing I'm curious about though. The specs on on the Gateway website for my laptop, say that I can use a maximum of 2 gigs of RAM. So why would they have put the AMD Turion 64X2 inside when it has the ability to run Vista 64-bit? What exactly limits the amount of RAM you can use? Is it possible that with an upgrade to Vista 64-bit, the computer could actually use more than the advertised 2 gigs of RAM?
-
I'm using a Gateway laptop to run PS CS3 right now, with AMD Turion 64X2 1.6 Ghz, 2MB of RAM, and Vista Home
Premium. From what I understand, I should be able to use Windows 64 bit. Would this upgrade offer me better
preformance in PS when working with large image files. I shoot everything in RAW.

Steven, I'm in Milwaukee and this sounds like a great idea. I'm on my way out the door but will try calling you tomorrow.

James, I took a look at some of your shots and I like what you do. I understand how alchohol can loosen one up a bit, and make it easier to shoot, but have you considered facing the dragon? I have come to enjoy the edginess I feel at times when I shoot street. If I'm nervous, I know I'm alive and it actually helps my alertness. When I first starte shooting street about a year ago, I also looked for ways to hide my camera. But I found it mademe even more nervous, since now I was hiding. As I found ways to openly shoot and practiced them, I found a new level of confidence. And yet, the slight edginess is still there, but now I'm growing to be more alert and confident.
Don't get me wrong, there are times I shoot from the hip. But even then, I usually have the camera otu in clear view. It's just that no one knows when I'm about to pounce! ;-)
Good luck in whatever approach you work with.

"LOLOL OK, so maybe it isn't an SLR. You're right - it has a viewfinder."
So do SLRs.

Two bodies...
A brand new (less that a week old) black paint MP, and a black chrome M6 TTL.
Four lenses...
Summicron 35/f2 ASPH, Summicron 50/f2, Elmar 50/f2.8, and a Voightlander Skopar 25/f4.

In the Jan/Feb 2008 issue of "Photo Techniques" magazine, in his article "The
Right Way to Scan" Ctein states that we should scan our B&W negs in full-color
mode on the scanner, then do the conversion on the computer. The result is
apparently less noise since the scanner only uses one channel (green) when
scanning in B&W mode. This is news to me. I guess it makes complete sense. Does
anyone have comments on this?

I just won an OKARO for my IIIf RD. For those of you here that actually use one
of these, which window do you prefer to use it on, the VF or the RF window? I'm
not looking for past links to a related discussion, but rather feedback from
someone who is currently using one of these, and why you chose to use it the
way you do. It seems that the opinions vary.
Thanks!

I picked up a Leica IIIf RD off ebay last week. It arrived today! Can't wait to
get a roll shot.

Alberto, I just spent several minutes perusing through your gallery. I've only been shooting street for about 6 months now, so I'm not sure how valuable my input will be.
I would agree with the others here who suggest that you get more critcal with your editing. But if I may, I would try to develope a sense of predicting human behavaior, working towards a moment when your image provokes the viewer to ask a question. I'm not sure if that makes any sense, but there was one image that REALLY did this for me and stood out beyond all the other images. This one:

I hope to see more of your work.

I just bought a Zorki 1(e), and not having a template (and my unsual impatience), I tried cutting the film myself freehand. I've gone through three rolls since last weekend, cutting each one this way and have not had a problem.

Bruce, I would like to echo Stuart's comments and invite you to hang out for awhile on the forum. Just enjoy the new camera. And better yet, share a few photos!

Another very satisfied Luigi customer here! I ordered a halfcase for my M6 and it fits extremely well and feels much better while shooting.
Gary, I understand your concern about the extra time it takes while changing film. I wish there was some way around it. But in the end, I agree with everything Elijah said. It's just worth the extra few seconds to protect your camera and for a better feel while shooting. I just make sure I use 36 exp. rolls (as opposed to 24 exp.) to minimize the downtime.
It's refreshing to deal with Luigi, as he is very concerned with crafting the finest product and saisfying his cutomer. He goes the extra measure. And in this age, this is so rare to find.
