  1. Calgary Stampede cancelled as of yesterday. First time in over 100 years. Not a surprise that it has been cancelled, but for western Canada that's a big sign that the summer is going to be very different.
  2. 100 years has taught us an almost immeasurable amount more about spread of illnesses - I'm actually impressed by how much they did understand or at least guessed at in 1918. We didn't actually see viruses until the 1930's when the electon microscope was introduced - viruses were only discovered scientifically (tobacco virus) in the 1890's, just 20 years before these photos.
  3. I'm using my iPhone, which has a more than adequate camera, mounted on a tripod in front of my desk. I'm on zoom most of the day now, and it works just fine.
  4. My wife is a full-time hobbyist/seamstress/knitter so she's pivoted to cranking out masks for anyone that wants them. I'm pretty much used to putting one on for stores now, but limiting that to once-per-week at most. I posted on another thread here that I've used this time to finish a hobby room we added to the garage when we renovated 4+ years ago, and moved most of my photography stuff there. My office desk in the house is now full-time, 8-hours-a-day work space with Zoom being on at least half time. It feel weird going down to the kitchen after a few hours, like I'm going to a different place completely. We will get through this, but there will be long-term impacts that I hope we learn from.
  5. That reminds me of sometihng I'd like to record sometime. When you are standing at a corner on a racetrack with a couple of dozen other photographers, especially on a race restart with the cars all bunched up there is this amazing sound of all those cameras set to multiple shots. The cameras reach a dull roar of click/click/click...etc. until the cars get close and all you hear is a few thousand unmuffled horse power, and then as the last car leaves the camera shutters continue until that sound fades away. It's quite the epic thing.
  6. 5 years ago we did a major renovation and one of the things we added was a hobby room on the new garage for my wife's stained glass work, and for my photography habit. Life intervened and we never got it finished. So over the past three weeks that has been the prevailing project, and it opened for activity this week. I even built some tables using recycled decorative spindles and left-over cabinet materials as part of the project. I've started a scanning project that's been on hold for years, and after that I've got some larger printing jobs that I've been delaying. It's been good to be active because every time I think about what is going on out there I descend into a level of depression I'd rather not explore. I hope everyone is busy, and productive in their own way.
  7. Very impactful. You know what the ending is going to be, but you're drawn to it regardless. The very ordinariness of the photos is what makes this such a compelling narrative. It's every day, for most families, over a couple of generations. Thank you for sharing it.
  8. Thank you for sharing that. My wife is a Parisian and this delighted her. It’s on our YouTube list now.
  9. Challenges with posting today are all mine...We had a great weekend at Daytona International Speedway with the Rolex 24 Hr race. Great weather, good racing, and the start of another season of racing in the northern hemisphere. This shot of a car in front of the Ferris wheel is one of those iconic things I need in my basket.
  10. Another great weekend at Daytona International Speedway for the Rolex 24 Hr race. Best weather we've seen in a while.
