  1. Hank, I just took a closer look at My pictures and I can see what you mean. the sky with the zoom of the weather vane is horrible. I thought the sky looked better in the shot with the building from a distance but there too I can see the so called noise.

same shot with a K100d and say the SMC 18-55 stock pentax lens or a tamron 70-300 MM is going to look much clearer and true right?

    thanks again

  2. Hank,

thanks for taking the time to do a side by side. even though the minolta has some interesting and good features for average photography the K100D is by far better. what lens was on the K when you took the Picture of the sky.

I think the Z is phenominal for what it is but i will pull the trigger real soon on the K

thanks so much for your input

  3. Gentlemen,

thanks for the clarification on lenses.

I am certain i will achieve a higher level of quality with the Pentax over the Kodak.

the Z612 does offer an lot of similar features to that of a true SLR camera which amazed me when comparing them. this is the reason i am hesitant to pull the trigger so fast on the pentax even though i know it is a "better" camera.

take a minute and check this out.

lets see if i can get a close up and a zoom picture taken with the Z to post.<div>00JWtP-34440784.thumb.jpg.9450302362ff90ca604f67a1efd01bcd.jpg</div>

  4. sorry to post so many questions on the Pentax K100D but being new to the

photography world in a sense i need as much direction as i can get from more

    experienced people.

I received a kodak Z612 for christmas as a gift I recommended after researching

the features between the Z and the Pentax K.

I know I can use different lenses with the K but the Z has a MM rating of35MM-

420MM (equivalent) and does have a "few" accessories for the fixed lens it

    comes with.

will A pentax with a tamron 70-300MM be a "true" 300MM where the kodak is as

    they state "equivalent"

I know I the K has higher ISO ratings and Shutter speeds.

I know it is a "Better" camera.

some one asked me last Night "what will the Pentax do for you that the Kodak

    wont"

other than what I already know I ask you more experienced folks the same

    question.

What will the Pentax do for me that the Kodak wont?

  5. I am about to pull the plug on a pentax K100D

this seller has a good rating and has been given high marks here as well

this Kit looks like it has all I need to keep be busy for a while.

looks like a great deal to me. 1 pentax smc lens 18-55 mm 1 tamron 70-300MM lens

1 gig card, camera case, card reader , cleaning cloths and a few things i do not

    need.

    $785 plus shipping

    Good deal?

  6. Owen, thank you for the detailed reply.

what is this noise people speak of in pictures? tell me what to look at and in what picture so i can understand.

with the K100D i more than likely will start with the 18-55 mm lens kit it comes with. why do they call it a kit anyway?

my K1000 has the original SMC M 1:2 50 MM lens that will fit on the K100D as they say. i also have a Seikor 80-205 MM F4.5 macro zoom lens

that should go on the K100D as well. so for telephoto shots this should be Ideal as a starter right?

the pictures in my portfolio of the baseball game was shot on the K1000 with the Seikor lens.

if i slap a doubler on that i should be able to get right up close for a face shot from the same distance right?

I am a relative newbie to all this but it has been a life long passion to photograph. I limited myself by no wanting to take the time to get pictures developed.

Digital is has much more of a "instant gratification" to it

    thanks again for the reply

  7. also forgot to add.

i am looking at the K100D there are 2 lenses that i can order with the camera.

this one is a Super Wide Angle SMCP-DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL

and they offer this Tamron 28-105 f/4.0-5.6 IF & 80-210 f/4.5-5.6 Lens Kit!

    i am not looking for zoom/telephoto as I have a 80-205 and a 200MM with a doubler.

I would prefer a wide angle.

sounds like the first one is what to go with?

    opinions?

  8. i received a Asanuma auto tele converter 2x doubler on a lens that has no

    identifying marks.

the doubler is a screw mount and i have a bayonet mount on my K1000. is there

and adapter for the bayonete mount that will accept the screw on doubler?

    if so where to buy?

    thanks

  9. Adam, Renato

thanks for the replies. while I know the Pentax is a "better" camera I am really enjoying the Kodak as my first step into digital. would it be a good idea to keep the kodak as an everyday type camera to throw in the car or do you think the K100D would fill that same purpose? whould you keep a "good" camera like the K100 or a nikon D40 in your car on a daily basis?

I have included another picture from the Kodak for you opinion

  10. I have a K1000 and love it. i just received a kodak Z612 for christmas and

what a fantastuc camera. see my portfolio. jusy 4 pictures but as soon as i

sign up i have many more.

in any event. i really want the K100D so i can use the few lenes i already have

    for the K1000

I have tried the K100 and it seems like a very good camera. How would it

compare to the Kodak Z ?
