1. Hi Steve, I was just surprised with a new laptop for Fathers day and first place I came was here. I have been or was coming here since 2006 when I set aside my K1000 for Digital. I have not been around because I couldnt find a computer that suited my needs ( basically storing and viewing pictures). I was just telling a friend today that I was kicking myself for not paying for membership years ago and getting one of those little film cans next to my name. I dont think it was because I didnt think it would last, my contributions were limited. I see we were both wrong. anyway, nice shot. my wife and daughter did good with the graphics card and storage....now I'm going to have a few months of loading pictures....lol
 2.
I reconsidered all those novelty items and just got a regular Sto Fen diffuser, I see them on all sorts of flashes in all sorts of environments ( people like me, semi Pro's Pro's and on the red carpet ) so I guess they are good for something.

I also got the gold and green one ( the green seems more blue but....

I dont see a lot of difference with the white one.

The green/Blue one adds a funky tint but this one is meant for use with florescent lighting

but the Gold one!!!

now that adds some rich tones and actually Diffuses...

only snapped a few shots of nothing in particular and will give them some time over the next few days.

I just have to get better overall with being able to adapt to changes in light and my settings as some of you have pointed out.

thanks for all the dialog

 3.
I agree Robin

but......My P&S is an Olympus Pen ELP 3 lol

 4.
HinMan

No need to apologize, thats your experience and I appreciate the input.

"flash and AF are something that I do struggle with Pentax gear. "

is that to mean that other brands, Cannon and Nikon are better with their flash/AF than Pentax from your experience?

" I find shooting with available light not adequate for some situations but it is crucial not to distract the main photog"

Ive become good at timing my shots with a real Photog as to use their lighting and not to distract them ;)

 5.
with natural lighting I did a little better with my sister at her wedding

(K100D)

 6.
very nice Duane, skin tones are natural looking.

I took a few shots of my Son and his soon to be wife for a save the date photo and while we did fix it up a bit this is the original shot

 7.
I read ALL the responses.
Thank you all, there is some really great info in there.

Jochen, as always detailed and very informative. great points. I'll be playing with the settings rather than adding devices to compensate for my lack of ability.

Hinman, P on my K50 most certainly does not stand for pathetic. I have also become accustomed to shooting from a distance with my 70-300 and 18-250 as not to get in anyones way.

with all the input I think the only thing I should probably add to my kit is one of those stofen difusers. I see lots of people using them so I guess the serve a purpose.

I like the idea of the gold one too as to add some tint to photos.

Henry,

I wonder why the word professional is in quotes.

no disrespect intended. I was meaning to highlight the fact not diminish ( even if she is using a Nikon) lol

but by and far the best advice given sir, was to leave the camera home and enjoy the day

thank you all

 8. Thanks for the responses I have already met with and asked the Pro if it was cool that I horn in on the action I'll me in a bunch of the shots so there won't be much for me to do anyway. I also want to enjoy the day. It's my first child being married so I don't want to miss it because I'm concentrating on getting a shot. That's why we got the pro
 9.
I am terrible with indoor shooting of people.
my Son is getting married in a few months and while a "professional" has been hired, I will also be shooting.
being that my flash photography skills blow, I was interested in these few items.

2 are for the shoe mount Sigma 610 I have and the other is for the pop up flash

this one is obvious that I should have

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/359282-REG/Sto_Fen_OM_EY_OM_EY_Omni_Bounce_for_Canon.html

this one has me very curious

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/752485-REG/Vello_FD_500_Fabric_Softbox_for_Portable.html

this one is for the Pop up on the K50

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/899545-REG/Graslon_4500_Spark_Pop_Up_Flash_Diffuser.html

what are your opinions

thanks

Douglas, I figured the Takumar was manual. I was fooling around with my original Pentax 50 mm 1.2 manual lens over the weekend and liked it. I used that lens primarily with my K1000 for 30 years so the manual aspect doesnt bother me with the 135mm. besides, sometimes that Af with its multi segment 11 or 18 point focusing sometimes F***'s up my shots and has a mind of its own.

So being that we have determined that the 50 is actually 76mm would it be pratlical to go with the 35 mm which would give me the 50mm I am loking for and not have to "step further back"?

Harry, for 59 bucks its almost like a why not.

I tried posting my Asunuma screw mount with 2XTC in the classified with no hits. maybe I should see if they have a bayonet to screw mount adapter and checkout that lens on the K50

thanks for all your replies....always very helpful

oh and Jochen, nifty fifty is a Canon reference I believe and there was this article on Photo.net also

http://www.photo.net/learn/portraits/50mm/

http://shutterstoppers.com/top-8-reasons-buy-50mm-lens/

http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/10/03/best-50mm-lens-for-your-camera-8-nifty-fifty-lenses-tested-and-rated/

sorry about the same link to the 50's

this is the second one listed as "normal" for some reason

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/40755-USA/Pentax_20817_Normal_SMCP_FA_50mm_f_1_4.html

I am about to take the next step and move into dedicated focal lengths. I was planning on starting with a Pentax smc 50 f1.8 thats been being advertised for under a 100 bucks lately at B&H
but while looking at it, its the equivalent of a 76 MM because of the whole conversion thing between SLR and DSLR.

would the 35 mm that would actually be 52 MM be closer to the "nifty fifty" ideal that seems to be the "perfect lens" as some would say?

also

whats the difference between these two 50MM lenses
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/864663-REG/Pentax_smc_DA_50mm_f_1_8.html

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/864663-REG/Pentax_smc_DA_50mm_f_1_8.html

I think this might make a great addition too. for 60 bucks why not?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/801211906-USE/pentax_telephoto_135mm_f_2_5_takumar.html

I posted some pentax stuuf I am looking to sell in the Classifieds under Camera parts.

not much value of this but maybe someone can use this stuff.

the only things I think are worth anything are the Asanuma 2XTC and 4.5-60MM lens with attached fixed telescoping lens cover and the Pentax 50MM 1:2 with a little ding to the threads for the filter

I do have a question though

What is this camera (voightlander) and is it worth anything?
