1.
the reason for the soft center is probably a scanning issue, the prints look pretty good compared to the scans. though the dof is shallow on an 8x10 and a 14inch lens with a constant aperature of f8 i can use some movements to make up for some of it. my 14in. commercial ektar is a breeze to shoot with compared to the rapid, but it produces a completly different look, i really like the look the rapid gives. thanks again guys for the nice comments

 2.
thanks guys for the nice comments, yes scot my niece is at that age where she is p*ssed at the world, lol, not really, this was an eight second exposure, she said she couldnt hold a smile for 8 sec, i said ok, then give me your mean look. (and she did). Hi Chris good to see you again, havnt seen you in a while, strange i have never heard of silvershotz magazine but thanks for the tip i will have to go to barnes and nobles and check it out. I usually go to books-a-million, about the only mag they have there that interests me is B&W magazine, its pretty good too but i defenitly want to check out the one you mentioned. thanks again,

 3.
thanks for the responses, yes i was planning to print these in the darkroom tonite and see how they turn out, Rick thanks for the honest critique, that is why i enjoy this forum so much. everything I did in this photo shoot was intentional as far as darkening the background 1.5 stops also using my flash as my main light rather than a fill light, i wanted to use the ambient as fill on this one. what i was wanting to do here was more like a studio setting rather than an outdoor setting, the surroundings did not really mean that much to me, i was more after the lighting and using the flash as my main. thanks again for all the critique.

 4.
thanks Rick for the critique, I didnt even notice about the coat, should have used a darker color, i did this once before doing a portrait except it was a bright white shirt. the scanner i use is an epson v700 and it did this a few times before, last time i had to reinstall the drivers, and oh! no she didnt freeze, usually we move around to different areas to take pictures but it was just too cold, so i shot a roll up pretty quick. the flash was set up on a stand about 4 feet from her angled at about 45deg to my right, I darkend the background a stop and a half

 6.
Hi David, I shoot paper negatives all the time, yes they do fit into a standard 8x10 holder. I use grade 2 paper, arista edu ultra is very reasonable, i rate at ISO 6 seems to work very well for me, be careful not to include much sky in your images, due to the very very small range, maybe 2 stops, cool thing that i have discovered about these paper negs is they dont seem to have much of a reciprocity issue, not what i have shot anyway, so far 2 min and they have been great. good luck (btw whe i started using paper, i did some research on it and read that using graded paper is much better than using vc.

00VI1m-201945584.thumb.jpg.ac0c16123c1b3078e771d43b94db4673.jpg
