1. Nice initiative, Sanjay. Need someone to do this every couple of years.

    Mumbai

Re Deepak & Govind mentioned above. Their shop is Mini Foto. I got a Nikon F5 and my Dad's 45year old TLR repaired by them in last

18 months. Also a 110mm Mamiya RZ lens which had a bad flash contact. Did a good job on all. Turnaround time was also reasonable.

  2.
67 is just great due to the bigger size and lot of excellent gear is available today at a fraction of its original price. But you seem to be keen on projecting the slide..........

the biggest problem with 67 projection is equipment availability. Add to this the fact that whatever little surfaces in the used market is usually out of India. Bringing it to India at reasonable cost and without damage is a significant concern. I am sure you will find one (I did after a 3 year wait) but be prepared to wait to see your slides.

From the projection point of view, 6x6 is a better option. Hasselblad & Rollei projectors are more easily available in the used market.

  3.
I have tried out the RZ for all kind of photos (not professionally, Photography is just a hobby!). I have taken it outdoors too. Even on travel with family! But finally have come to the conclusion that the RZ system is for indoor work. Just not practical for outdoors - the weight of the camera + lens(es?) + mandatory tripod becomes too much to carry around. Except if location is within 50m of the car! And photography is the sole objective of the travel.
Shipping intercontinental is indeed something to worry about. 67 projectors are heavy. The Goetschmann model I have weighs 22kgs and with the trunk case it is 36kgs! You could insure it but this will only get your money back - it will not be repairable in India!!
Check the gecko-cam.com website. They have a section on Goetschmann projectors. All models are shown with pricelist. They also offer used equipment but individual items are not listed. Send them an email with what you want and they will reply. I bought slide trays from them and the whole transaction went smoothly.
B&H does not carry any mounts for 67 when I checked today. It seems Gepe online store is the only hope. I have heard that Wess mounts are good too.
Linhof projector - no idea
ProCabin - offers only a push pull option. Heating issue is responded by David. Lenses I have no experience
Goetschmann - check the Gecko Cam website. It shows all models. There are two with the slide tray option. All lenses are good. Choose one depending on projection distance and image size desired. Gecko Cam will surely give you good advice on these matters.

  4. I bought into the RZ system some 4 years back. Then started hunting for a projector. Several manufacturers made 67

projectors but most are impossible to find today even used. Of the ones you list the pro cabin is the only one that can do

    67. But I never found even one on the used auction sites. I did find and buy the Goetschmann used in Munich. You can

buy it new from Gecko- cam in Munich but the cost is too much in my opinion - over 5kEur for projector alone when I had

last checked. Your best chance is to keep looking at auction sites in Germany. Germany was apparently biggest market

for slide films and one will surely pop up around Munich area.

For mounts I use Gepe AN but these were discontinued couple of years back. I had been in touch with Gepe and the guy

said there was little hope of a new production run due to low qty. But I checked a few minutes ago and they are available

on the Gepe online store!! Prices are much higher than what I paid at B&H NY in the past.

Overall 67 projection is expensive and supplies of mounts are not easy to come by. But the projected image is a thing of

    beauty........

  5. I found one in Mumbai. Gave them the lens on Friday and they have repaired it already - in 2 days. Cost is also

reasonable. Will pick it up later this week and check but based on what I read in other forums they must have done a

good job. Giving details below for anyone else looking for service in Mumbai. They can do all sorts of film cameras &

    lenses.

  6. I have a 110mm 2.8W lens for RZ67 bought used some 3 years ago. The flash contact has developed some problem and does not

fire at all or fires too late. Could not find any repair shop for this in Hungary where I live. Will spend some weeks in Mumbai, India

shortly. Can anyone recommend a service shop doing Mamiya RZ lens jobs in Mumbai?

Or perhaps a DIY procedure for me to do!?

    Thanks in advance.

  7.
I like to view projected images.
Film is the only option available to do this retaining detail at the high magnifications this implies (usually project 6x6feet and up). Was doing 35mm slides with Nikon for long and since last two years have invested in Mamiya RZ set up + Goetschmann projector - nothing can beat the joy of seeing a well exposed 6x7 slide.
I hope film and processing remain available until I last...........

  8.
I faced similar problems with my RZProII recently. I was using a Cactus V4 trigger and thought it was to blame. I had set shutter to 1/250. I was told to reduce shutter speed. I set it to 1/60 and tested by firing with open back to check if flash was visible and it seemed to work well. Then tried some polaroid shots which also worked well. Finally I changed lenses to test things - found that my 110mm lens' X sync is the root cause!
I suggest unless there is a specific reason reduce shutter to 1/125 at least. Check the stobe firing (Cactus/PW/cable) arrangement. Last item should be to get lens CLAed!
Hope this helps.

  9.
Update
I shot another roll of Astia 220. Got it back with only 4 good frames!!
Reviewing what I had based on 2 botched rolls, I noticed that whenever I used the 110mm lens the flash was mistimed. With my 65mm and 180mm lenses things seemed to work ok.
Bought a polaroid back and tried out with 180mm and it worked fine.
I have concluded that there is some problem in the 110mm lens. Again disappointed as it was bought in LN condition from KEH. Now to get it CLAed...........!!!
But the Cactus V4 is working fine and that is a relief.

  10.
I would buy film in US. MF film can be twice as expensive in Europe. My experience is limited to slide film as I use Astia or Velvia on Mamiya RZ. But I am quite sure that it will be the same for print film.
If you are in Antwerp, then Grobet (www.grobet.be) near the main square (Groenplaats) is good for all type of films including E6. They need 5 days to turnaround E6 though. Print must be quicker.......

  11.
RZ has a X sync only. Shutter speed was 1/250.
I had read that Cactus can be unreliable. But I bought the latest V4 version which has a better reputation.
And the most important point is other frames in that roll were good - so the cactus does/can work alright. I think the misfiring has something to do with the fact that flash fired when the film advance lever was getting back into position (cf original post).
I intend to try another roll. Will post what I find.......

  12.
Recently shot a roll of astia 100F (220) and got it back with several frames dark. The camera was RZ67 ProII with 6x7 back. A cactus V4 transmitter was connected to the camera hotshoe via a Hama hotshoe to PC adapter. And receiver was connected to a SB28. I had checked the Cactus V4 connection and am sure it worked. When I took the shot the flash was triggered but out of the 20 exposures, 4 frames are completely black meaning the flash was mistimed. What was the problem?
I now remember that after shooting the previous frames, I turn the lever to advance film, cock shutter, ... and when the lever got back the flash fired! I thought this was some loose contact and was not too bothered as the flash was triggered (out of sync evidently) everytime I pressed the shutter.
Please help with your inputs - I lost some frames of my daughter's photos!!!
Thanks.

  13.
I have a RZ67 Pro II and two SB-28 flashes. When I can use only one flash I set it to non-TTL A mode and hold it or mount it on the L bracket : basically keeping it close to the camera. It works fine.
When I can I use both flashes. One connected as above and the second one with a SU-4 in non-TTL mode. I set both flashes to manual full power (usually with omnibouces attached); meter with Sekonic meter and shoot. Works well too.
The main flash is connected with a PC sync cable.
I guess you should be able to do the same and get good results with SB-900 too.

  14.
Thanks, Alastair.
But I do not have the same switches on mine. The rotary switch is not there at all!
I am going to upload two snaps of my projector. I do not know what switches A, B and C do. Need advice!
The orange switch to the left of switch A turns on the fan. The larger black switch to the right of A turns on the lamp.
What do switches A, B, C do?

00VCau-198857584.JPG.6cd03f7353ec20f2dfae7f903063838e.JPG

  15.
Kevin,
Goetschmann has handed over the business to a Munich based company - Gecko-Cam - I have asked them and am waiting for a response. Hence I thought of asking here.
Edwin,
Thanks. I can read some German. Can you email the German version to me?
Your comments about the PC-adaptor are right. After some experimentation, I managed to fit the PC-adaptor + lens assembly onto the projector and can see the images now. And I do not mind having to focus manually. But the pitch of the thread on the PC-adaptor is very short so I have to rotate it a lot before there is a perceptible difference in the focus - this makes it very difficult to change focus. Is there some other way?
I paid Euro 1500 for the projector + 150mm lens + PC-adaptor + alu case. I have been following recent auctions on Ebay.de and this seems to be the price level currently. I do not need anyother lenses now but will keep it in mind.

  16.
I just bought a used Goetschmann 8585 AV 67 projector with a Schneider 150mm lens. The lens has the perspective control accessory fitted to it. The owner did not have a user manual and I am having problems -
1) Fitting the lens to the tube on the projector is difficult. I need to know how it is done.
2) There are a lot buttons on the back and I do not know which one does what!
The projector is working in that the lamp is on and the tray advance mechanism is working too. But if I hold the lens in place (I do not know how to fit it!) I cannot get sharply focussed images!
I want a manual for it. Does anyone have a soft copy? Can I buy it somewhere??
Thanks in advance.

  17. Thanks for your inputs. But the battery indicator was showing full. And I have cleaned and removed and refitted the TC & lens. Still no improvement!

Later that day out of frustration I just pressed the shutter release a few times. All of a sudden the Err vanished and everything was fine.

I think the problem is the cold weather. Ambient goes down to about 10 degrees at night. The camera cools down leading to the Err. I am going to warm it up and try again to check out this theory over the weekend. Will keep you posted.

  18. I was shooting F90x + TC20E II + 300f4 in Aperture priority mode and after I

clicked, Err started flashing in the viewfinder & LCD display. No other icons

are flashing. The autofocus works. DOF preview button works so iris is not

jammed. If I press the shutter release, the shutter is released and film

advance works too (wasted 5 frames!). This happened early in the morning when

the set up was cold (but when I had originally switched on, all displays were

normal & everything was working well). I left the set up in the sun but Err

kept flashing even though the set up has warmed up to normal temperature.

There was a thread in 2003 reporting a similar issue on a N90s but no solution

is mentioned there. Can anyone suggest a solution?

This is a critical issue as I like to shoot film! But cannot afford the F6!!

Thanks in advance for all help.

    Regards
