  1. i have no affiliation with the site below but having read this thread i was naturally curious about what exactly is this type of photography. i typed in boudior into google and it came across this site http://www.jessicaclaire.net/oldblog/C200682272/E20070114225554/index.html

some of the pictures used as an example by this photographer are really lovely. there is something tastefully coy about this type of shoot. not so much on your face but more a subtle sense of eroticism. given the means and the confidence i would definitely be interested in this type of shoot myself!

  2. the finest muslin shall always be very light. legend has it that the very best muslin made my the skilled craftsmen of bengal (present day bangladesh) made muslim so fine that a mile could be weaved through a ring! of course, its impossible to find such grade muslin now as effectively all the craftsmen were made to grow lapislazuli by the british colonial masters in the 18th and 19th century.

if you have an indian area close to you, go into any of the clothing stores. you will be able buy good muslin cheaper.

  3. i think the idea of honest criticism is certainly good but it would perhaps be unworkable. i used to provide genuine critiques of work that i thought required rectifying. however, after receiving much abuse from a number of users because i dared to say something negetive, i now refrain from such comments.
  4. i'd rather like to have a few pictures that were pin sharp, especially in

    cityscape and landscape type photography.

eqipment is bessar with a few ltm lenses, 35mm color skopar, jupiter 50mm and

85mm and a leitz elmar 9cm from 1939. bascially, i am wondering, if i am taking

a wide shot into the distance, do i leave the focus at infinity and as small

    aperture as possible?

  5. hi drew,

always lovely to see colour works on old lenses. i use an elmar 9cm f4 on my bessa r body. it takes mainly black and whites but i put through an old konica 1600 colour film through it last year. unfortunately, the film wasn't really useable at 1600 which is where i metered. anyway, some of the pictures came out surprisingly well with acceptable contrast. these old lenses shall certainly not compare to the modern lenses in terms of colour contrast but if you are after muted atmospheric shots, something that i like a lot, they are very capable performers. please post any more pictures in colour if you have them.

  6. why don't we call the forum mark's park?

i like the idea of this forum as well. i have been on this site for over a year now and almost 80% of the photography knowledge i have acquired have been through this site. much of that was initially to look at the pictures and read the technical details section. so many photographers don't provide technical details at all probably due to workflow issues.

    good call mark.

  7. i was looking through the jessops online store and noticed they offered a

professional colour print service. i was wondering if anyone has tried this

service, especially with films such as fuji realia and the kodak porta series

of 160 films. is it worth the price if i were to get a whole roll developed?

i normally tend to have my negetives bulk developed from peak-imaging.co.uk and

homescan with a epson 4950 flatbed. if any comes out as intended, i tend to

either scan them at the highest possible resolution and have them on my

gallery. if friends want prints i'd usually take the negetive to my local

jessops store and have enlargements done from the negetives. i had a lot of xp2

400 asa developed from jessops in the past and they came out surprisingly well.

this was not the pro service though, just the bog standard c41 processing.

i have an old canon s30 digital. i use that a fair bit these days but only for

non-serious photography. i had some prints done from this digital using the

jessops and the prints were surprisingly good. i had the same prints done from

a cheap online store and they came out horrible with a green cast in a lot of

them! not that i do a lot of prints for friends, but its nice to get a good

print when i can see the picture on screen as being a good exposure.

  8. firstly you will need an adaptor. the olympus made adaptor is not easy to come by. here in my local jessops they had one but that is a rarity in itself. they can be on order for months. i have heard good and bad things about chinese alternatives from ebay. some have had very good results.

lets think about the older lenses logically. they were manual focus so you'd have to focus manually, of course the aperture would have to set that way too. metering?

i intend to get a 410 body as and when i have a tiny bit more money. wanted to offload my manual gear lately but the forum members advised against it. so now in two minds!

  9. jinan,

i am sorry to hear that you have been struck by much misfortune. a hobby such as photography can indeed provide a welcome path to distraction, however, your questions have been posted in the wrong forum, and for that matter there are too many of them.

the personal issues need to be dealt with as otherwise they would always come back to haunt you. whether you believe in the power of dawa and healing, or would like to pursue a counsellor is your own decision. as for photography, it appears that you really have soent the money without knowing much about the products. since you know so little about computers, surely, the best thing for you would be to avoid them. take your pictures, find a pro lab somewhere in the middle east close to you and get them developed. home scaning is an artform that takes months to master. there would be no shortage of help here if you were to do your own research and then ask the question, but for the moment, the forum users would be reluctant to asnwer your question because there simply is too much to teach you!

there is another simple route. sell all your film gear and get a digital body and lenses. then get any ibm, toshiba or dell laptop with plenty of memory and at least a dual core processor. you should be able to take out the memory card from your new digital camera and plug into your laptops card reader, and then strange things happen, as in you get windows and promts to have your pictures transferred to the machine.

however, i distinctly have a feeling that if you are struggling to do even the most basic amount of research in the first place, you will struggle with digital. so in that case, stick to your film, take pictures, get them developed professionally, and keep away from computers.

i hope your personal situations improve.

    very best regards

    puck

  10. i am looking to sell off my om body and lenses to generate a bit of money. the

money would either go towards a digital e410 body or perhaps cash to pay off

debts elsewhere. fleabay isn't really an option as i don't have the time or

energy to sell through that medium, although i realise that this might be the

    best option.

i am in uk. a local camera shop owner who also sells second hand stuff asked me

to bring in what i have for a quote. i don't want to under-sell the stuff. ebay

prices i know having done some research over about. but dealing with a shop is

different. so any estimation would be good.

the shop owner indicated that he'd want to take it all as one batch rather than

    individual bits.

here is what i have, have indicated ebay price based on my research, however,

those are only for guidance and i expect the shop owner to give me less than

even the most conservative ebay prices (in pound sterling) -

om4 black body. fully working condition. cla about eight/nine years ago.

unfortunately, does suffer from the battery drain problem unless aperture left

in bulb mode. paint scuffs in all corners and it looks well used. (ebay price -

    ?70-120)

zuiko 100m f2.8. excellent working condition. cosmetic condition okay. (ebay

    price ?45-100)

zuiko 50m f1.4. excellent working condition. smooth focusing and aperture

    blades. (ebay price ?30-60)

zuiko 50m f1.8 x3, all good working order (ebay price ?5-10 each)

sigma branded om 3x converter, excellent condition (ebay price ?10-20)

sigma 28m f2.8. excellent working order and cosmetics (ebay ?15-30)

vivitar 24mm f2.8. excellent cosmetics and working order (ebay ?25-40)

vivitar 19mm f3.4. excellent working order and cosmetics (ebay ?40-50)

sirius 300mm ?3.6 good working order and cosmetics (ebay ?5-15)

the cheapest ebay total is around ?250 if i were to sell the stuff

individually. could i possibly anticipate around 200 uk pounds from the shop?

would that be a good price? i would really loathe to let it all go for less

that 175 uk pounds i think and was really hoping for 200. if i could get 200

then perhaps two months of savings added to that would get me a e410 starter

    kit.

i won't be totally going off film as i still have a bessa r body and set of

lenses that i want to keep. the focusing the size of that kit makes it more

    appealing to carry around.

  11. neal currie - i have films bulk processed by peak imaging. twenty rolls every three or four months is what my output had been since taking up photography as a serious hobby since about this time last year. so far i had only shot 35mm film. the negetives are then home scanned in my budget epson 4950 modified scanner. i don't mind spending money on processing. i know there would be a steep learning curve like there had been with 35mm. this is why i wanted an older, cheaper camera to learn the basics.

thanks to everyone else for your comments and contributions as well. i don't live in london. this means access to cheap secons hand shops is not an option. the only second hand camera shop charges extortionate prices for used medium format cameras. a well used yashicamat 126 has a pricetag of 200 pounds in their display window. i saw a mint one of these go on ebay for 70 pounds inclusive of postage yesterday!
