I'm a big fan of black and white, but in this case I'll have to cast my vote for the color version. Both are nice images, well composed. I'm curious why you chose SFX 200?

Very nice portrait. Contrast seems a bit high for my tastes, but you may like it that way. If this is your first attempt, I'd say you're off to a great start! Keep it up!

It looks like this was shot near midday--I'd recommend shooting early or late in the day to get more side lighting and hopefully better definition in the subject. Also, I'd crop out a good part of the blank sky, it doesn't really add anything to the photo. Hopefully, this is a location you can come back to again, old machinery/implements make interesting photos. Good luck!

Interesting title--a comment on some less endearing aspects of modern society no doubt. I like the use of both straight lines and curves. The one distracting element is the blurry bit of chain-link fence in the upper right. Keep up the good work!

The one criticism I have is that the photo seems to lack a strong subject--the darker diagonal and vertical tree trunks get lost in the jumble of branches. You might try cropping to the left of the prominent vertical trunk on the left side. A general burn-in of the top area might also help a little. I like the tonality of the photo and the detail is wonderful.

Excellent composition and textures. The photo seems to lack obvious visual cues as to scale...which makes it all the more interesting and stimulating (at least for me anyway). Excellent work!

The technical term for this phenomenon is crepuscular rays, and, as Mr. Blair pointed out, they're caused by the cloud casting shadows on the haze in the air. Occasionally, when the sun and the cloud causing the shadow are both below the horizon, the rays can be seen diverging from the solar point, crossing the entire sky and converging at the antisolar point. I've seen this several times from the deserts of Arizona on clear evenings.
Nice photo, by the way...

Very nice photo. I love the fact that all three kids are doing something different--you did a good job capturing the moment. I did notice some blurring in the upper left corner of the photo...a scanning artifact perhaps?
