  1. I was yelled at and forbidden to make pictures of dead meat, i.e. meat on a skrewer, on a street stall in a public area and public nightmarket ... I even intented to buy something to eat, but after I was yelled at I choose to go to the competition across the street :)
  2. Investing in a new brand is going to be the more expensive investment, not a better one. Sony is releasing a semi-pro and pro body later this year. The A100 is an excellent camera and a good start into digital. I was in the same position, had the lenses but didn't want to buy the soon-to-be-out-off-production Minolta dslr's so I waited for the Sony to be released, didn't regret it for a moment and looking forward to get one of the future bodies.
  3. Sony is making pro 'quality' video cams and gear for years.

Sony is not only making accessories that fit their own, they made the Alpha CF mem card only ... not their own mem stick.

Sony is doing a lot of R&D in sensor technology.

Sony is pretty good in design ...

  4. Oh, forgot ... immigration/customs don't really care about that problem. Entering Taiwan is pretty straight forward, depending on your visa/visa exemption ... Getting a visa is more of a problem as they require some documents and reasons stated for applying for a visa. Most western countries have 30 day visa exemption, so most TECO's don't see why you would apply for a visa ...

If you state work on your application it might get complicated as they demand letters and contracts, proof from your(future)employer.

If you're freelance ... well, even more complicated ... but still you need some documents to get a visa ...

Basically, if you don't tell ... nobody asks ... if you want to go 100% legal, it takes some days work and run around ...

  5. What are you going to shoot ... ? Where are you going to shoot in Taipei?

I live in Taiwan, close to Taipei and I know for other professions, agencies need to apply for working permits. It depends probably on how visible you are on the street. Sometimes you might need a license or permission, for example when you photograph Taipei 101 and use it commercially ...

I have no idea about the lighting equipment but there are/should be some, I can look up the addresses and contact numbers if you want me too. I know off professional equipment stores, they probably do some rental.

But it makes me kinda wonder what does "MODEL FOR HIGH AMATEURS" mean,

Does that mean short amateurs not allowed?>

No, they would have written 'tall' amateurs ... high means someone that has probably more expercience and lives for his photography hobby ... and wants to spend a little more money on it and expects better quality pics and gear ...

  7. This grip is in my opinion not worth the purchase, I've tried it on my alpha in the store and it's too big and heavy ... imagine 12 AA batteries ... this one is made in Taiwan and I know the company, I guess the seller wants to get rid of it ... another option is the Dicain grip from South Korea, more elegant, better fit, ergonomics and uses the original Sony battery ... and only one external cable to connect, the 'Ownuser' grip from Tawain has two and it looks awfull ...
  8. I have a Xs Drive II VP2160 with xD card and other multi card download possibility, it has no way of checking the files are actually downloaded, apart from the COPY OK! warning ... so, everytime I download and erase my cards I have to wait until getting home to see they are actually copied ...

I would in the future like to by one with LCD, like epson has or the manufacturer of my present device ... there are a few on the market and prices range from 250-600 US$ according to what HD space you want.
