  1. Reading this has now made me very leery of buying or selling except through the normal reputable dealers. I was on the verge of trying to sell my 28-70mm 2.8 and D2X to UsedCameraBuyer.com, but it requires that I send the equipment to them and then they mail the check to me. Is anyone familiar with them or dealt with them before?

  2. LG,

If you would like to see samples of shots taken with the 70-200 AFS VR, go to my website bwc-photo.com and look in the "Flowers" gallery. All of the bee and yellow-jacket shots are with this lens and the 1.7 teleconverter attached. The camera was a D200. In particular look at CLEM2548. This photo was 1/500 sec at F7.1.

  3. Laura,

I believe Microsoft Digital Image 2006 Suite is just an updated version of Picture It. You might want to check it out to confirm that it still does what you want.

  4. Scott,

I have both and as Shun indicated the EN-EL4 is 1900 and the EN-EL4A is 2500. The battery you are looking at on the B&H site is made by Impact, not Nikon. I would stick with Nikon's battery even though the cost may be a little higher. I have seen some user surveys indicating problems with the Impact battery as well.

  5. Harvey, I have the 10.5mm DX and also the 12-24mm DX. For the D3 I have the 17-35mm 2.8. I am very anxious to see the first reviews on the new 14-24mm, as well as the 24-70mm. Those two would cover 95% of my wedding needs on a FF body. I currently have a D2X with a D200 backup.

Ellis, 16X20 is the largest print I am making at present. I agree that with my current lens lineup (I also have the 70-200mm 2.8 VR and 200-400mm 4.0 VR) I don't do a tremendous amount of cropping.

Thanks everyone for your responses. This has helped reinforce my thought process. Like I said, I will get the D300 as soon as it comes out, and will probably upgrade my D2X in the spring with the D3. By then any initial bugs will have been worked out. Plus from what I am reading the D300 will provide me with enhanced features and images over my D2X. I'm just glad Nikon finally upgraded the top end of their product line. It was well worth waiting for!

  6. I plan to have a DX body for the forseeable future based on the extra reach it

gives me for nature shots and sports. With that in mind I have pre-ordered the

D300 body. I also do portrait work and weddings, so the D3 seems to be a great

fit for those. My question is what advantage do others in the forum see to

waiting for a possible D3X (or whatever the name might be) with 16 - 20MP later

next year? I don't want to spend $5,000 now and wish that I had waited later.

On the other hand, if that model falls out in the $8,000 range as speculated

there would have to be a lot more than extra MPs to get me to lay down the

    additional $3,000.
