Is it worth the money? Only you can decide.

Most likely it will NOT work. But what did Vivitar say?

If you are a manufacturer and have a new firmware version that, quite obviously, has no significant changes, and your customers experience, quite obviously, no problems with the earlier version, and upgrading firmware by customers is always risky and generates higher service efforts, you think twice before releasing new firmware to the general public. Also, sometimes new firmware is required because of hardware changes during production, and while it's necessary for new hardware (and comes pre-installed on this new hardware), it brings zero advantage for old hardware.

I absolutely understand Sony when they only release firmware updates that are actually beneficial for customers.

I see nothing wrong in this answer.

I have the impression that you don't quite know which focal length you need. 17 mm and 21 mm is a big difference, much more important to the picture than the last bit of sharpness. Maybe you should decide on the focal length range first.

Having said that, the 17-35/3.5 G is certainly the best of its class, but also a lot more expensive and rarer than the 17-35/2.8-4. The Minolta and Tamron version are basically the same lens, no difference in the optical design.

The Tamron Di II, Sigma DC, Tokina DX and Minolta DT lenses do not work on the 7. They have a smaller image circle for reduced frame DSLRs. They do not cover the full frame format of the 7. So you can cross out these.
-
The 100-300 APO also has a front focus design, and it's not that fast focusing.
-
Never heard of any AF problems with this lens. Where are these reports?
-
Thang, Nico meant the SSM.
-
Have you checked eBay?

I'd be very surprised if you get this lens anything but second hand. It's been discontinued for years.

But don't expect to get his lens cheap. Second hand prices often approach the last prices for a new lens.

If you try Wolf, please let us know how it went.

If you want to use mail-in processing, you can try Farbglanz.

There is no technical difference between the two. The flash was just re-named when the xi series of cameras was released.
If the 2000i doesn't work it's probably broken, or the batteries are no longer good enough.
-
Just go to Sony's web sites. The A100 has a pentamirror.

Sounds like it needs a repair. Pressing the button should only stop down the lens. Releasing the button should open up he lens, and with some bodies there may also be a mirror up-down action.
-
Forgot to mention: Sony took over the service for all Minolta and KM photo products.
-
Does it flip up the mirror when you keep the button pressed, or is the mirror flipped up when you release the button?
Stopping down the lens is the whole point of a DOF preview button, and flipping up the mirror when the button is released is normal for most Minolta bodies (the aperture mechanism and mirror are interconnected).
-
The Konica mount is long dead. Sony only uses the Minolta A mount.
-
Which lens did you use for the overexposed shots?
The most common reason is oil or grease on the aperture blades, making them stick together and not close quickly enough for the shot.
-
Dave, your pt. 2, that's what I meant with "cosmetic changes".
-
The Tamron 17-35/2.8-4 is (almost) identical with the Minolta 17-35/2.8-4 (just cosmetic changes). You won't find a difference in performance between the two, and also not between the various mount versions of the Tamron lens. So if you find a review for the Tamron in Canon/Nikon mount, it will be valid for the Minolta mount Tamron or the Minolta version.

The A100H is just the A100 with the 18-200 lens. Sorry, it's not the new camera. The kit with the 18-70 is called A100K, the body only A100.

All current Sony Alpha flashes work on all Minolta AF cameras with the same flash foot.
-
Jed, so you are ready to spend $8000 for a camera?

A-700
in Sony/Minolta
Posted
Camera Raw 4.2 is compatible with CS3 and Elements 5.0 and up.
You can use the A700's battery in the A100, but not vice versa. The 7D's batteries are completely different and not compatible with either camera.
