  1. On the subject of firmware updates, can you skip an update and then install a later update? I have the Canon R6 that has never been updated with the latest firmware. Thanks for your help.
  2. Any thing is possible (without more information). I like Ed's suggestions. When I purchased my Canon EOS 5D 3 a few years ago, the mirror fell out of the camera the first time I removed the camera body cap. (Canon and I, have never been able to remove the scratches from the mirror - their advice and cleaning cost me close to $$).
  3. Thank you all for offering your experiences and recommendations. I now have the EOS R6 camera but, not long enough to learn all the new features available - my wife and I, do bird photography with 500mm and 600mm lenses primarily. Next, I will have to get new software that contains cr3 for processing - using cs6 only allows the use of cr2. (I'm considering the purchase of the RF 800mm f/11 (fixed aperture) lens but, can't find very much feedback). Again, thanks for your thoughts.
  4. Thanks to both Dieter and Glenn for the latest on cs6 and DPP. I have never used DPP or Adobe DNG so I will try both to see which approach works the best for me - what ever method works the best using RAW. (I may continue using my EOS 5D Mk III more than I thought I would have to). Again, THANKS for your recommendations.
  5. Today was my first time outdoors to try out my new Canon EOS R6 camera. Every thing went well until I tried to process my photo's in Adobe Photoshop cs6. Adobe would not accept my RAW photo's - "Could not complete your request because it is not right kind of document". So, to investigate, I tried processing in FastStone.and had no problems. I am hoping that Adobe is just slow in updating cs6 to accept my CR3 files?
  6. Thanks to you all for being kind enough to address a difficult question. I didn't mention but, my wife and I, used to do a lot of travel (COVID -19 limited) (wild) bird photography using long lenses. I liked the comments about the eye detection AF(IBIS) image stabilization feature with the R6 so, I'm leaning towards that feature. I plan to finalize my decision in 2021, so I have some time to decide. Again, thank you all for your comments.
  7. (First, I hope this is the correct forum). I would like help in evaluating the "best" camera as listed above - I would like to purchase one of the camera's. (My current 5D Mark lll has problems with a screen that can not be cleaned although, I can remove the artifacts in Adobe Photoshop). Evaluation: EOS 5D IV with 30.4 megapixels at a pixel size of 5.36um and a difffraction-limited value of f/8.6 versus the Canon R6 with 20.1 megapixels with a pixel size of 6.56um and a diffraction-limit value of f/10.6? (I know there are many other differences but, the camera's cost the same amount). Thanks for your help. Mod Note: Moved from Digital Darkroom to EOS
  8. Mike, Thanks for your comment - haven't tried using the high pass filter mode.
  9. Thanks to both of you for your book recommendations. I will look at both for some additional insight.
  10. I would like to improve my sharpening skills when using photoshop cs6. I currently use "smart sharpen" in cs6 as my last operation before closing the image. This method is OK however, can any one recommend a book that offers details (other than "unsharp mask") or sharpening software? Thanks for your help.
  11. I think there must be a saying about reacting before thinking. I RESOLVED the issue by resetting my options bar back to a normal state - no options.
  12. When processing in cs6 RAW, the crop tool © will not allow me to drag more than 2/3 the distance across the photo? I usually drag from the top left corner downward to the bottom right however, where I start to drag doesn't make any difference - can't drag and select the entire photo. I welcome any suggestions.
  13. I am using cs6 however, way back when I purchased cs4 (I had cs3), I discovered that when purchasing Adobe software paying for a cs- disc was a waste of extra money - about $20.00 dollars more. The disc is not needed or used by Adobe when making a purchase. I recommended saving the money.
  14. Thanks William K. I think I will wait for your report since we both use cs6.
  15. Hi Bob. By now your back from your trip and have determined by experience the do's and don'ts based on your experiences. My wife and I, were on the Viking Sea and may have been in Denmark (Alborg) about the same time - 8 countries/11 cities. I'm sure you had a great time and are probably ready to go back, soon.
  16. Gerald Wallace Lasersoft Imaging has provided their Silverfast customers the opportunity to purchase ("sales@picture - plug-ins.com") an Adobe Photoshop plug-in for dust and scratch removal - $29 (Euro/$). Has any one tried this software? I currently use adobe photoshop cs6.
  17. Thanks to you all for your inputs. Based on what you all have told me there are no simple solutions - no "map out" solutions. I usually shoot at f/16 (for depth of field) but, I will try and see if using f/8 makes a difference. I can't see myself using Canon software just to eliminate spots - too time consuming. (Just returned this week to discover the results of the Florida hurricane so, I'm just now finding some free time to process approximately 1,800 pictures taken with the subject camera). I understand my options and I thank you all for your help.
  18. I usually use the spot healing brush (in adobe photoshop) to remove the spot.and it usually does a good job of removal (if necessary, I will use another removal tool). I don't want to continue fixing every picture (that shows spots) so, I'm looking for a software fix in photoshop cs6 (like Canon's software). (I don't want to learn or process my photo's using Canon's software). Again, I would like to find a way to make a (one-time) permanent fix by mapping (out) the location of hot spots and scratched spots. (I have Adobe Lightroom 4.1 but, have never used it). I'm assuming photoshop cs6 has a way to map out the "bad" locations?
  19. I have the Canon EOS 5D mark 3 which neither Canon or I, can remove blemishes from the sensor glass. Can Adobe Photoshop cs6 hide sensor blemishes like Canon's software? (I'm looking for a one time {permanent) fix. Thanks for your help.
  20. Allow me to explain the conditions. The memory card was down loaded to a laptop at the end of each day. I would then format the memory card in camera (as usual) for the next day (15 day trip). This experience only happened for two shots in the same location on ONE day about mid way of my vacation - did not occur again for any other shots. I tend to agree, that the cause of this experience was a faulty memory card even though this outcome did not occur again. I can't explain the inner workings of a memory card however, the same memory card was and is being used every day without a problem - for four years.
  21. Hi all. Using my 5D3 and taking about 800 shots (on vacation in Bulgaria) a few months ago I experienced two unexpected pictures. Part of the pictures show colored diagonal stripes? Can any one provide an explanation? Reference below.
  22. Jochen, thanks for the recommendation. I talked to Canon this morning and asked specifically about sensor glass repair. Canon said they could repair/replace the sensor glass (not what I heard a few years ago)? That leaves me with some problems concerning time (I'm leaving in less than two weeks) and the costs (which will be more than I think it should cost). (My fallback plan if necessary, is to use my EOS 7D mk2). To expand on your thought - I live in Florida and the repair/service center is in Virginia. It's going to be close considering ship out tonight (Thursday), receive Monday or Tuesday, add 5-7 days before evaluation, repair time, and then return shipping (4-5 days).
  23. Thanks to all of you for your responses. I think additional cleaning by me is a waste of time. It looks like I will be using my back-up camera (EOS7D Mk 2) while on vacation in two weeks. I think I will need a hands on second opinion on the question of cleaning my 5D Mk3 (perhaps Canon repair).
  24. Hi Charles, I'm cleaning my sensor (glass) using eclipse liquid and pec pad wipes on a paddle and viewing using visibledust LED light. Plan to continue clean once or twice each day until the end of the month or until I'm satisfied the sensor and mirror box is clean - no residue.
