For telephoto work, I have been using the new Nikon DX 70-300mm AF-P, f4.5-6.3 ED VR for several months now, with amazing results. This inexpensive $400. little, lightweight zoom received the EDITORS CHOICE award from a review by ePHOTOZINE, so I decided to give it a try and I now absolutely agree with that review. At f8, it is tack sharp throughout it's entire zoom range, even at 300mm! It gives a very respectable 105-450mm telephoto equivalent on my DX D7100, has great VR and the new AF-P autofocus is faster than any AF I've ever used before...on any lens. The lens is not perfect, however. It has a cheap plastic lens mount, although it fits snugly onto my D7100, and you cannot properly turn the AF or VR off, when used on any DX body, other than the very newest few Nikon DX bodies. However, this particular new VR doesn't seem to degrade the image, when it remains on, when used on a tripod with my D7100, as some older VR lenses have a tendency to do. Since I bought and first tested this little lens, I have been using it on my D7100 in place of my much more expensive and far larger and heavier 70-200mm f2.8 equivalent, or Nikon 200-500mm f5.6 more often than not. It's so much smaller and lighter to carry, is easier and faster to use and when I leave it set at f8, is just so darn sharp.
