  1. wait a minute, are you saying the EARTH rotates around the SUN!? Are you sure, that seems a little far fetched. Next thing I know you'll be saying the earth is not flat or something crazy. :)

Thanks for the answers, analemma is exactly what I was looking for!

  2. I remember seeing in the photo.net forums awhile ago, a discussion

about a year long shot of one specific spot in the sky with a single

exposure taken about once a month of the sun. So at the end the photo

showed the path of the sun as it moved throughout the year.

I've done a bunch of searches and can't seem to find it here or on any

other site. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any example of the

    photos?

<p>Didn't Schrodinger's Cat teach us anything from physics?

<p><b>The very fact that you are in the scene with a camera changes it.</b> I think it's

silly to think that the Dorthea Lange Migrant Mother picture was not posed. How else

would she get a portrait of the women that close? A camera in the face of a person is

    definitely going to change <i>"reality"</i>.

  4. Graham: Unfortunately, Berkeley Extension is cutting way back on their photography classes. They have shut down their darkroom in SF. I used to work in it. They also have more or less disbanded the department, they are still offering a few classes but not for much longer. (1 or 2 more semesters)
  5. To answer the last question, I can't quite classify what I shoot, it is a broad range and changes frequently with my mood and where I am.

Since I'm sure you're all dying to know my decisions, I have already made one. I bought a used Hasselblad 501CM and I'm loving it! I need to remember not to remove the shield on a loaded film back (d'oh!) I traded in my Yashica-C, unfortunately it wasn't a straight 1-for-1 deal. :)

And as far as digital, I'm still debating it. Right now I'm leaning towards selling all the EOS 35mm gear and picking up a Canon Powershot G5. Small and compact, who needs all that glass for a small digital sensor. From what I've seen and read it looks like it gives good quality pics.

  6. The 1Ds is a little out there for me. I was referring to the 1D, which is 4-megapixel.

I've also heard the 1D is being discontinued, hence the lower price these days. The 10D is tempting but my concern is the feel and ruggedness of it. I love the EOS-3 and from what I've read, the 10D comes up a little short with a smaller viewfinder and not quite as solid.

  7. I've been going back and forth between the Canon EOS 1D (digital SLR)

verse the classic Hasselblad 501 kit, medium format film.

Both are about the same price range. I currently have a EOS-3 and a

    few lenses (20, 50, 100m). Plus a Yashica-C and a couple of Holgas, so

experienced with medium format. I mainly shoot black and white,

60-70% of the time, and color slides the other 30-40%.

I've also debated selling all the EOS-3 and 35mm gear to go simple and

only have the Hasselblad with one lens. No other choices or thoughts

to worry about but the subject.

But the convience for not having to scan or develop and the

flexibility of a 35mm system (macro, telephoto, etc..)

    Thoughts?

  8. This question comes up all the time, and it just seems silly. It's like saying, well some

one else has been to (name famous location) before, why should I bother going there.

Other eyes have already seen it. If you take that approach, how could you even get up

and out of bed each morning?

Yeh, someone else might have done something before. What do you care about that!?

Have *YOU* done it before? Is it something you want to experience? something you

    want to see or explore?

  9. How long can photo chemicals last under these conditions?

I'm more concerned about fix and hypo. I have two large jugs which have been sitting

under my bathroom sink for about a year. Sealed in their original containers with

some air in their, nothing special done.

I do have some developer left over but I use Rodinol and that stuff doesn't last long,

so I only bought in the smaller containers. So it wouldn't be losing too much

  10. I had the same problems with that scanner. I ended up returning

it because it was too slow. It would take well over two hours to

just scan a roll (twelve) 6x6 negatives.

There's a review of the new Epson 2450 and article posted here

on photo.net.... I'm hoping that one is not as bad, plus it's less

    expensive.
