1.
Hello , I have recently been back taking shots at a Boxing gym. The owner has let me in free to take photos at the events. I handed out a couple of cards to some parents and there is interest in buying off my site. I have printed up some photos to mat and frame to bring by the gym, last time I just dropped off couple 8 by 10's with no frame, felt it was kind of cheesy. At the fight the owner said I want you to send me some photos. My question is, should I email the owner a few photos and a link to my site, I didnt get a chance to give her my card on fight night. There is a main event coming up in July which cost a $100.00 to get in. Is it a good idea this early to email her photos that she may or may not use on her website. I am still an amateur and trying to learn the ropes.

 2.
Thanks Mark, I do have a Canon Rebel G film body I could use, kicking myself for selling the Elan 7 I had. I could look into renting a 30D or 40D. Would be nice toi have 2 dslr's, instead of dslr and 35mm film. I am still going to talk to bride and explain the first time shooting and ask why she doesnt want to hire a pro. We all know the women care more than the guys, and I have only talked to him so far. If I can pull it off, coulkd lead to more gigs down the road. Although I wonder how much work a Wedding Photographer can get in Toronto Canada? It must be seasonal, with most of the work being in the summer? My wife and I got married in August. Nice photos and website Mark.

 3.
I think I might go for it. I am always up for a challenge. I like the idea of doing for free except maybe expenses for travel and lens and flash rentals. I am I also like the idea of a contract covering myself as a first time shooter so the bride is aware. First time for everything right ! I'll never know until I check it out !!

 4.
Hello , I have been asked to shoot a wedding coming up in August. I have done some martial arts shooting for the same guy. I told him I have not shot any Weddings before but it seems like he still wants me to shoot the wedding. I am not experienced with flashes, I shoot night time stuff and Sports high ISO with a 50mm 1.4. I have limited gear but I guess I could rent. I have a 20D with a 50mm 1.4 and a crummy 28-105 3.5-4.5 zoom. I guess I worry about messing up his Wedding not being used to using a flash, and in this economy can barely afford to buy a Flash and 17-40mm F4 lens. Any input guys would be great !! I have some wedding samples posted here - www.gregfinnegan.smugmug.com

 5.
I recently just signed up with Smugmug and really like it. I like the fact I can lay it out myself and that I am learning a bit of HTML as well, although I am stuck at how to modify it a bit more, but they have great tutorials on there. Plan on shooting more boxing next month and handing out cards at the fights. www.gregfinnegan.smugmug.com.

 6.
A friend of mine has asked me if I would like to shoot some martial arts " WUSHU " to be exact. He says that his gym is redoing their website and would like new photos etc. I have shot some boxing, baseball and hockey but have no idea what to charge for something like this. I dont want to come in low or high in this economy right now. I have a 20D with 50mm 1.4 and could rent a 24-70 2.8 if needed. Would love some input as how to go about this. Daily rate ? How much for images that end up on site. Do I sell the rights totally to them, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

 7.
I am sure there will be places you can go to scan film at high resolution down the road. I just got 8mm reels put on dvd that were 35 years old. This photo was scanned at Shoppers Drug Mart in Toronto cost me $3.00 to process and scan a roll, its Portra 400VC, dont see much dust on there, and has better contrast than digital.

00SB1q-106005584.jpg.55e288b8d48d408dfd88231c6b87f0b2.jpg

 8.
Thats exactly what I have thought as well steve. Down the road I can always scan at high resolution. Do I want my images trapped at 8.2 megapixels in 30 years. Annie Lebowitz said one time " If your going to do anything make sure you preserve your images" What will a collection of 20D images look like in 30 years. Like rockwell says "Film is the real Raw"
