Larry,
Thanks for the tip. I will try to load a copy using sRGB. You were right it looks much better.

Would nice if you got the whole bench in the scene.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The original file has a
lot more saturation in the green. However, when I upload it to
photo.net the saturation goes away.

Chris,
Thanks for your comment. I can see what you mean. The funny thing was that I kept shooting until the backwash from the surf was extra crispy. I guess I was more concerned about the surf entrails than the background vista. It does cause the eye to do an up down (can't figure out what is the subject) motion. I guess it is a little like the Queen song "I want it all and I want it know.." Maybe if there was a stronger cloud composition to stand up to the backwash entrails.

Some may call this the classic San Francisco frame through the Golden
Gate bridge, others a cliche.
I like the mood. Any thoughts?

Natalie - thanks for looking.
You are correct about the fish eye, but the image was not infrared. I captured the image in color processed with a red filter in photoshop and adjusted the contrast a bit. The white buildings and light tan umbrellas definitely give the image that infrared look. I too wish a was able to capture the feet of that one guy. It was an image of opportunity and was gone a split second after I captured it.

Thanks Zach. It is the subtle tonality that makes this one of my favorite images that I have captured lately. It is rare to find a set of completely white subjects set at different angles to the sun. The low clouds and windmills play off each other with the exactly the same light reflection.

Kim, Thanks for the comment. I've been away for months. It looks like the critics have gotten tougher. The hardest part about shooting this scene is that the best angles are right on the freeway. It is often tough to pull over.

Light Isolates - Purisima Creek Redwoods, San Mateo, CA

Kieth,
You're spot on. The dynamic range this scene overpowers it. The shortfall of digital. The top is blown and there is nothing I can do about it. I did bracket the image 3 stops. This image was made from the -2 exposure. In print, the rock has definition and really shows off the light isolate. At -3 the middle ground is lost.
I might try for an HDR rendering, but I'm kind of happy seeing the limits of this single exposure.
