  1. A brisk, hard week at work. Relaxing for the weekend, I managed to

have the time to get my nearing 'Vinnie Barbarino' hair cut. It had

    been a while..since October.. yikes.

Bill's Barbershop, a 5 minute walk into town from the house. I got

there a few minutes early to catch up with Bill, and take a few

pictures. It was a beautiful Saturday, and Magnolia Street was glowing

with sun for the first time in weeks since the winter rain and fog

    dropped in.

I shot through an entire roll of 400tx while waiting.

    Developed w/ Microdol-X (mix straight)

    1 min agitation

Wish I had a 1/2 stop more in the exposure.

is nearly 20 feet in diameter. The amazing structure of the center

column in the museum hides scale of everything unless a person is near

it. This, for that matter, could be 2" in diameter.

    Hong Kong Vertigo

          4

It was my second work adventure to Hong Kong this last summer. On my

last day in the heart of the Island, I had to get up to the roof of

the 60 story building where I was working, and take pictures at sunset.

I lured my acrophobic boss up to the roof with me, who watched in

terror, witnessing my energetic shift from the safe vantage point

along the railing, to the exposed perch that I knew would give me the

    most direct view down.

Laying flat, with my legs twined around a pole for balance, I

stretched as far over the edge as possible for a unique view of Wan

    Chai District below.

I sensed the stop light freeze the rush hour traffic, that was dotted

with the familiar white topped red taxis. I rolled off images till I

heard my boss quickly exhale the words, Lets get off the roof.

    Lily Study #1

          5

In a slow period from my day job, I started setting up floral shots in

the studio. Shooting the flowers that I would pick up from the

market, I noticed one week that there was one Lily bud that didn't

have the power to expand like it's others on the same stem. I let the

sun dry it for a day, while still on the stem. It's last push for

growth in the direct sun, curled a petal, as if to say it was ready.

In a failed attempt to shoot this lonely flower on the stem, the bud

snapped free, and the petals still in tack, fell into my hand.

Holding it with both hands, like a fallen goldfish, I searched for

something to lay it on. Standing in the kitchen, I looked to the

sink, where a baking sheet from the night before was catching light

from the window. I placed the remains of the Lily on the baking

sheet, and carted it to the shoot table in the studio, where I began

to replicate the light of a window, and capture the last moments of

    this beautiful flowers.

As it turned out, it's one of my favorite still life flora images, and

for me, best represents my studio work at this time in my life.

.4 Second exposure. Two mini-moles, with barn doors almost all the

way closed. One bouncing light off of a cyan card, and the other

raking across the pan. Slight fill with cuc'd MagLight in black room.

..and 1/2 a bottle of wine for me. ;)

  3. All week, I was looking forward to getting back to Bill's. I had 10

minutes on Saturday in between running around getting things done on

my one day off when stores are open.

I drove past Bill's, and shot him a wave. He waved back, and I pulled

over. I dashed inside, and started shooting. Ironic that Mike was in

the chair, as he was the very first person I shot at Bill's almost a

    year ago with my 20D.

The light was pounding out little town today, so it was going to be

tough to match the other shots w/ the Hasselblad at Bill's. Also, I

was shooting 400T-max. A few variables to wrangle at develop time.

The neg just dried, and I scanned in at 600dpi for a 8" print at

    16bit.

    Hasselblad 500cm : Zeiss 80mm C T*

    Kodak 400TMY : TMax Dev 1:4 for 6min w/ 5 sec hard agitation every 30

    seconds.
