  1. Gary Green said : "A thumbs up for "Going Up", Rick. That shot has a classic film noir cinematic feel to it." Yes, I'm a great admirer of the film noir genre, that sense of impending danger an otherwise ordinary scene can generate in the viewer. I'd tried to convey this in the "Stormlight" image, with the scene lit by those intense rays of sunlight that shine from beneath gathering clouds. Thanks for the comment! @ kmac Humphrey Bogart? Good choice, though I'd prefer Wednesday Addams...

  4. I've just taken a film out of this Pentacon Praktica BC1, so we shall see what develops. It's a simple camera, nicely constructed and a pleasure to use.

  10. I'm stuck inside due to some inclement weather, and cleaning some of the old cameras. These Yashica Electro 35 GSNs are such pretty cameras and they have the iconic 45mm Color-Yashinon DX f1.7 lens, and I'm tempted to take one out this weekend, if the weather clears.

  14. Quite right, Jeff, my typos get worse by the day! Definitely the 150mm f/3.5 Mamiya Sekor C.
  15. Wonderful! Thank you Orsetto! That's exactly the sort of response I hope for when I initiate a thread. Heaps of interesting and valuable information.
  16. Fine photographs of Tutukaka, Bruce, certainly one of the prettiest areas in the upper North Island. Here are some from a Mamiya 645 1000s using a 135mm Mamiya-Sekor C f/3.5 lens. I've had this lens in the Mamiya kit for several years and I can't recall having ever used it, as I tend to use the two zoom lenses for longer focal lengths. 17. While I've owned a Nikon F-801 for several years, I couldn't resist temptation when I was offered this very original F-801s at a very reasonable price. I shall take it out with the rather good Nikon 28-85mm lens and a load of Arista EDU Ultra 100 to see how it performs. The only really significant upgrade from the F-801 is the addition of a spot metering option.
  18. Beautiful large format quality, Bruce. Images such as these increase my longing to return to 4x5 format...

  23. Gus Lazarri said: Don't use Alkaline formula batteries in ANY photographic application ! Good advice, Gus. However, I'm in the habit of removing batteries of this pattern from the device after use. Who knows, it may be weeks or months before I pick this camera up again! Before using a camera of this age I always fit new batteries and test it before loading film.
  24. Thanks for the history of the Albinar name, Jeff ; invaluable information that has been pasted into an appropriate folder in this computer. It's great to get such first-hand information rather than relying on the Net.
