<p>"Weather proof" means is lightly water resistant. I dont think he was saying it was "Water proof"</p>
<p>To me weather proof is splash proof</p>

<p>I just pulled it out again just after I wrote the post above, this was after not using it for about a month (I have an A700 I use now) And same thing, locked up. It took turning it off and on after locking up 3 times, before it worked again without issue.</p>
-
<p>I have the same issue. After not using it for a couple of weeks, it will just lock when first turning it on, nothing on display back, nothing at all will happen apart from a click when the sutter is pressed. <br>
Turning it off and on, pressing the shutter buttom it again locks it up again. I just keep turning it off and on, then eventually it works after doing that about 5-10 times, and I do not have anymore issues unless I do not use it for another week or so.<br>
Using it daily or every few days, is fine, no lock up.</p>

Ohhh you are talking about upgrading from a KM A200 digicam.
Well............. I have this camera. I can tell you with one million percent honesty. That camera and what it produces is nothing compared to the quality of a Sony DSLR, let alone even the older KM 7D and 5D models.
As I said, I upgraded to the 7D, and the KM A200 results paled into comparison. In my earlier response I did not even mention I had the KM A200. Cause it is a digicam, and honestly not even worth mentioning when comparing it to my DSLR's.
I thought you were talking about the Sony A200 DSLR. But if you are talking about the KM A200 digicam. Then you really need to try and use a DSLR, and if you cannot see the difference in performace and quality of your results. Then you ain't looking hard enough.
Just the noise level alone will improve your image quality with a new Sony DSLR.
Get a DSLR, no doubt about it. you will in no way regret it. get the Sony A200 if you do not want to dish the money for the A700.

I came from a 7xi, to a 7D to an A700. I have used the A100, and also the A200. For me the the A700 sensor gives me better results than those fore-mentioned camera's. The results between my 7D and A700 are just simply a world apart.
Bottom line is you buy the best you can afford or are willing to spend.
If you cannot justify the cost within yourself, then you do not buy it.
-
There is no way Sony will go the way of Minolta and end up vanishing. You are looking at one of the biggest companies in the world across the digital, media, and electronics world.
You should have bought the A700, great camera.

I want to say that I have been a strong 7D user for years now, and thought to
myself the A100 was not what I wanted, the A700 when it came out really looked
the goods.
So yesterday after finding a really good deal, I bought it. Delievered to my
door the same day by courier.
A couple of things compared to my beloved KM 7D
Build : looks very solid and strong, same as the 7D
Autofocus : It blasts the 7D away, AF lamp is a HUGE advantage
Exposure : now this is what really blew me away. 7D I was always compensating
for difficult light conditions, my black cat for example. The A700 is SPOT ON,
near perfection.
Flash : My KM 5600HS (D) on the 7D was good, but most of the time a real PAIN
to use, always messing things up, and compensation all the time. on the A700, I
have yet to take a bad flash photo using the external flash.
I must say the Sony A700 performance is astounding, I have no regrets
whatsoever. Picking up my 7D still feels good, but the images coming from the
A700 are honestly in a class above.
As for the noise and the clarity, the A700 is great.
I have now used all KM and SONY DSLR, and the A700 is simply the best of the
lot.
Thought I would just share these thoughts.

The sticky plastic ones do a good job, you just got to buy the right ones. If you prepare the surface correctly and apply it well, you cannot even tell anything is covering it.
My KM 7D is great, cause it came with a snap on rear LCD protector.
-
I think it will probably match the Nikon D3 in price. Maybe just a touch cheaper.
-
I would buy it, if I could afford it, but I think the price will be simply out of my price range.
I think you buy the best quality you can afford. A700 will be all I can afford and saying that just afford. That's the camera for me.
-
Buying a quality lens, flash, etc on Canon and Nikon, will cost you the same or more than Sony in most cases.
And the fact is Sony is expanding and expanding rapidly. I have a 7D and will be staying on the band wagon. I bought amazing bargins that the old Konica Minolta users threw away when KM transfered there stuff over to Sony and people thought KM was dead.

I think MP count is an issue for Pro's. Maybe not for news media who seem happy with even a 6mp pro handling camera, cause they can shoot then send images immediatly back to theie company headquarters.
But I have joined and looked at many photo stock sites, and some do not even accept images unless they are 12mp and over. Other require 16mp or more.
-
I think Sony needs to bring out a full blown Pro camera. If it really wants to start making an impact, it has to match and compete with the high end Canon and Nikon models. Otherwise whats the point in bring out another here nor there model.
-
The focus on my 7D is fast and responsive, I have used the Canon 40D a bit of late (friends) and would not give up my 7D for that.
I mean I can point and shoot and most things and not have issues. As for back focus issues. Not an issue with mine, but was I know with other people.
-
The electronics maybe a touch old, The 6mp is not, and more than enough. The camera in my opinion is still one of the best I have used in terms of layout. I love the dails, makes things so much easier.
I have had my hands on many DSLR's old and new, and I cannot understand why no one wants to put dails on top of the camera anymore like the 7D layout.
I still use the 7D (my only DSLR). It cost an arm and a leg when it first came out, and the build like someone said is like a tank. No weak points in my opinion.
Yes is may not be built like the Pro camera's which have to handle being thrown around. But more than enough for most.
I would buy the A700 too if it was cheaper, the A100 was not enough to make me drop my 7D. I say get it. It actually is a DSLR that feels like a true camera.

I own the A2, and I consider it better than the A200, the A200 is the later model.
The A2 has a tiny bit more versatility, as the A200 started to become a more user freindly targeted camera. Both are 8mp. A200 has a more versatile twisting LCD screen and slightly updated electronics. But not much difference.
The results of my A2 still outdoes many modern digicams. I paid $1499 Aussie dollars for mine when I bought it in 2005. Which at the time was ranked as one of the best 'Prosumer' models out there.
I use it as a backup for my 7D.
The A2 also has a grip and some telephoto and wide angle adapters, which I also bought cheap later on. So I think any prosumer digicam that has a dedicated grip, must have been thought of as a serious camera at the time targeted as more serious shooters.

Sounds like you were using a fast shutter speed and wide apature, which means depending on how your focus, a small part of your picture will be sharp and the rest will be more blurry.
I suggest using a smaller apature, F4, F5.6 at a higher ISO setting 200, 400, so you can get better depth of field while using a fast shutter speed to freeze the action.
This issue will happen with any camera, even a pro, is is a user problem not a camera problem.
-
The thread is a bit of a joke, Sony certainly makes quality stuff, you will have people bagging brands all the time. They cannot be one of the highest sellers of electronics goods and camera's if their stuff is rubbish.
One only has to look at their professional line of broadcasting stuff. You will not see TV and movie production gear on their mainstream website for sale. Some TV camera's they make for example can cost up to $150,000 US dollars and are used my many major networks.

Mentioned before, but thanks for the link, way better pictures then ones I have seen so far
-
You know what? no one is speculating too much, or even mentioned anything about the two new camera's. Seems like very few people care.

I want something right now that feels like my 7D with regards to being a serious looking camera with features. Then I will stick with Sony and upgrade from my 7D. Otherwise I go to another maker that is taking camera's seriously.

When are we expected to hear more than seeing some plastic model shells behind glass ???
After all I can make those.

This link I found on you Tube, only right at the end when it finishes do you see the DSLR lineup.
From the looks of it, I saw 3 DSLR camera's

<p>I also get an issues with pressing the shutter and getting a black picture.<br /> I press the shutter, it then seem to lock the shutter in the open position. Turning the power off will release the shutter, then powering it back on doing it again results in the same thing usually happening.<br /> I found the way i fix this is I then just turn it off, pull out the battery, put it back in, take the lense off, put the lens back on, and she was working again.<br /> It appears to only happen to my if I have not used the camera for a period, as in many days or weeks. As I have an A700 and don't get back to the 7D much.<br>
