I rented an M6. Didn't like it because it was not my auto focus, super quick SLR. Then I got my images back and that had me sold. Eventually got an M3. Moved on to an M4 years ago and have not owned a SLR in years.

That's it. Thanks.

Does anyone have the address of what used to be this site?:
members.aol.com/dcolucci/
He had a very thorough history of both Leica and Rolleiflex equipment, along with other medium format camera
manufacturers. Recently, when I went to his site, it was redirected to a new domain. Of course, I should have
taken note of the new address and bookmarked it, but I didn't and now AOL has discontinued their hosting. So, the
redirect is gone and Google or Yahoo hasn't indexed it yet.
Thanks

I went with Youxin Ye for my CLA. He did it in one day, for $80. He usually promises two week turn around, but I think he was slow. I've read often that DAG takes a while. Both DAG and Krauter aren't cheap either. Youxin's email is: wye7 [at] yahoo [dot] com

I've shot them all and would say that HP5 is the finest.

I'm with Craig Cooper in his response, except I changed it slightly:
Still shooting film with no interest in shooting digital, although I do scan everything. With an M4 and VC Meter II, I prefer to shoot Tri-X and Ilford HP5, FP4, and PanF+. As others have mentioned, lenses are superb, and the overall size of the package is small. I shoot 99% B&W and I'm convinced digital capture is still an eternity away from delivering the tonality of traditional B&W films. I also don't want to spend hours, trying to make digital images look like my preferred film stocks. And my Leica will not be obsolete in 2 years, unlike most digital SLR cameras.

I stopped reading this after:
"Nor have i used one"

I sent him my camera for a CLA. He told me a two week turn around. He actually finished it in one day and sent it back to me the morning after he received it. Super fast to respond to email too. Highly recommended alternative to the Krauter/Goldberg Leica technicians.

About 9 months ago, I was looking through the completed auctions on eBay. I saw a closed auction for a Leica M4 black pain bodyt, which was heavily worn (brassed.) The owner obviously didn't know what they had in their possession when they listed as an "old, worn Leica camera that could use some work." Someone has used the 'Buy It Now' option for $350.

I've seen plenty examples of black paint Leica M3/M2 that have a lot of brassing, but has anyone seen examples of
chrome versions with a lot of brassing. It must take a substantial amount of time and use for this extent of wear
to happen.

Time for a CLA. If you keep winding it, you are bound to jam the shutter/advance.

Congrats Frank. But, you didn't mention which lens it has. Is it a Planar or Xenotar.
I also have a 3.5F with the Xenotar and it is amazing how sharp it is. I got mine from a camera shop, where they did not know the condition of the camera because it sat on a storage room shelf of a photography store for the better part of 40 years. It turns out there it was in excellent condition, except for a minor dent in the hood. It only needed a CLA and I had a brighter screen put in. It came with the original box, receipt, paper work, and a coupon for a free roll of film from Rolleiflex. It also came with a case, the hood, and a strap. Mine is a 1958 model.

I need the same for my FM and I have contacted Essex. In the mean time I found an eBay auction, offering a CLA
for $80. He's an ex technician from Professional Camera Repair Service of New York. I might go this route. He has
a lot of positive feedback on his CLA service.
Auction is 270280629037

Jeffrey Siladi is excellent. I sent him 2 of my Rolleis for CLA's. One was a beat up pre war model. The first time I got it back, I noticed the 1 second was long compared to a Nikon N90s. He took it back immediately and even paid for the shipping. The second time it was right. He is fast, honest and cheap at $99 for CLA.
Say what you want about Ken; he sure likes his Leica!
