1.
Paul,

I am a Contax/Zeiss user. If you are using film, there is really no point at all in using a Canon, because you need adaptors, which means no lens to body information is transmitted so you must use the laborious and slow stopped down metering.

"I realise the auto features wont work and everything will be manual, but that doesn't matter"

....just be clear, using these lenses with adaptors is worse than just using the EOS manually, you must set the lens wide open to focus, stop the lens down manually to meter...it is a pain in the neck...the aperture will not stop down automatically because the adaptor prevents any mechanical or electronic connection between the EOS and the Zeiss lens with the adaptor in between.

Far far easier to buy a good used Contax body and use it with the matching Contax C/Y lenses. The Contax film bodies are now incredibly cheap for what they are, which is superb film SLR's. Buy a used Contax RX or Contax ST with Contax lenses. You can now get RX's & ST's at about 250 GBP in near mint condition.

All the Contax lenses are super, just some are a little bit more super. Best ones without spending lots of money on the fast ones are: 28/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/1.7 OR 50/1.4, 85/2.8 and 100/3.5. The far more expensive (and not any better optically) are: 35/1.4, 85/1.4, 100/2...I have used them all. I tried the fast lenses, but sold them all and went back to the slower ones.

The M42 Carl Zeiss JENA lenses are nothing at all to do with the Contax Zeiss C/Y lenses.

Any more questions, just ask...

 2.
Just to clarify...YES Olympus did make a dedicated hood for the 50/1.2...I sold about 10 of them on ebay about 6 years ago when ebay was still worth using. I would guess they are like gold dust now though. I found them on a German dealer website...you could do worldwide google search and try direct via dealer websites. Japanese dealer sites have many items rare in the rest of the world.

 3.
"I'd love to hear from people that have the same interests as me as to what direction thay have taken and why. Thanks"

...I do long day mountain walks, bought Pentax K-7 plus the superb Pentax Limited digital prime lenses...fantastic image quality and tiny light gear..much better to take walking than any FF camera...and the APS-C sensor size gives you more DOF, especially handy with macro work, plus the K-7 has better weather seals than just about any other DSLR ...really!

Check out the work of Justin Serpico from the PN Pentax forum...

 4.
You may well not need FF...many people convince themselves they do, but most are wrong. If you are doing whole day hikes and doing macro, a much smaller & lighter APS-C camera would have distinct advanatages....maybe the Pentax K-7...

 5.
"Anti-depressants are very helpful as a rule, but do be very cautious, they can be dangerous if not used carefully"

....even if you use them 'carefully' as prescribed by your doctor, they can often still be a nightmare from hell....and yes I do speak from experience.

 6.
One huge warning about Scotland....avoid going in the midge season...you can easily get eaten alive.....I joke not. Went last year in a camper van, chose a camp site in a woodland....they got into the camper (we assume up the sink waste pipe) in huge black swarms, had to abandon the campsite at 4am in the morning...

 7.
People forget ebay is an auction. When you buy items through a 'proper' auction house, eg antique auctions etc, you have NO returns at all.

In the UK most proper dealers ie shops or internet dealers give anywhere from 3 months to 12 months warranty.

Remember, in auctions you are (theoretically) getting items far cheaper than via a 'proper' dealer, so something has to give...ie no warranty quite often.

I do get annoyed with ebay users who pay little for items and still seem to think the seller can still give any kind of warranty. You buy via auction at low prices....you take you chances IMO.

 8.
"Highest rate of silly threads started in forums"

...have you ever read the Leica forum threads? ...loads of those guys are TOTALLY out of their trees.

"Is my cron the mk1 or mk3 one?"

"which is the best strap for my M3.48/224/3-6an?"

"which is the best polish for my M9.6?"

"how do I stop my leatherette on my 1922 M0.5 from fading when I take it out every sunday?"

 9.
K20D
1. DA 21mm (used as my 'standard' lens)
2. DA 15mm (not so lonely any longer......)
3. Any of DA40 / DA* 55 / DFA 50 macro.
Like the idea of the Tamron 60/2 macro IF they issue a PK mount one.

 10.
Hi,

No point any more in paying someone to fix those. The repair, even if fairly simple would no doubt cost more than buying another of the same Contax. The electronic repair even iff possible would certainly cost far more than another 137 would cost.

cheers Steve.M.

 11.
Hi,
I am currently pondering going full frame with the A850/900 or 5D mk2, could owners of the Sony cameras help out with my thoughts?
1. Why did you choose the 850/900, what were the deciding factors for the Sony and what other cameras did you consider?
2. What are the 850/900 really strong points & bad points?
3. How many shots do you get from one battery?
4. Which lenses do you use and which have you found to be especially good with the 850/900 and are any not so good with the full frame?
5. Is the new Sony 28-75/2.8 really worth paying so much extra for compared to the Tamron 28-75/2.8?
cheers Steve.M.

 12.
avoid the classic camera exchange like the black plague. Sky high prices, items not in the condition advertised, totally out of date web site, I ended up making an official complaint to UK trading standards about this guy. I simply would not trust him...lots of his 'UK' items are not in the UK at all, but in Germany. He lists on ebay as UK, but then items mysteriously appear from Germany, which he fails to mention. Items listed as 'mint' have small scratches on lenses etc. Simply not trustworthy in my opinion.
