The 40D is a great camera. I shoot portraits and also sports for a local newspaper. This is a great sports camera. I love the 6.5 fps but find that I hardly ever shoot more than 3 shots in a burst because I try to get the timing right and not just try and get lucky. Screen resolution sucks. I have to zoom way in to make sure that a certain part of the shot is sharp on the LCD. That would be my only complaint. I love that I can change ISO and my focus points without taking my eye away from the viewfinder. This really helps with sports photography. Great camera! Don't wait, buy now.

Harry,
I've been there. I only have a 40D, but I usually don't shoot with flash unless I just want some fill or something. I was at a basketball game last winter and there were about 4 other photojournalists there besides myself and they were all using flash (and Nikons) while I was smiling inside know that I was getting better (and almost noise free) pictures at ISO 1600 and f/2.8. I have seen Will's examples from his 1D3 and ISO 6400 and I can say that I really want one, but I want to stay married......for now. =)<div></div>

Thanks for the quick answers to my last question. Is there someway to add the
same effect to all layers at once? For example, I have 42 layers now, each one
a picture. If I wanted to add drop shaddows and inner bevels to each one at the
same time, how can I do this? I usually only have about 3 to 4 pictures for
each poster I make and this doesn't take too long to edit each picture. 42
pictures will take me a month to do each one. Thanks again.

Hey Rich and Jim,
That's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so VERY much!

Thanks for the response. Even naming the layers wouldn't help me now. The customer wanted 3 main pictures and lots of smaller ones scattered around. She showed me one she had done for her older son last year. I think it looks cluttered, but it's what she wants. Anyway, the smaller pictures arejust random action shots from the season so even naming them wouldn't do me any good because there is nothing meaningful or anything that stands out in each shot....Looks like I'll be doing this the slow way. Thanks again.

I'm working on a sports collage. I have 40 layers so far. If I want to go back
and move 1 picture I have to search on the layers pallet until I find the
picture to know what layer it is. There has to be a faster way, either by mouse
over or something to identify the layer number of each picture. Please help,
I'm wasting alot of time. Thanks in advance.

I went from the rebel xt to the 40D and never picked up my rebel again. I love the 40D.

I still don't understand how this is legal. I've never tried to buy from one of these places but have read alot of horror stories about them. If someone came to build a new room onto your house and the price for the job was set upfront before the work started, then they said that windows would be extra or the floor is extra, "oh, you wanted a roof on that? that's an extra $2000"....how is this any different really? These people should be going to JAIL!

Another vote for 17-40mm

I did believe that I had this problem all along. I just never tested it. I paid almost $1100 for that lens and I knew that my portraits looked a little soft. Actually I have posted something on it before. I don't have a tripod that will support the 40D and 24-105 yet. My old one will not. For this test I set the camera on top of my sturdy couch and used a 2 second timer, no IS.

Thanks Bob. As for the motion blur, I never thought that you could have blur at 1/400th. I was suprised when I saw this shot. I never had any blur even at 1/320th with the 85mm for b-ball.
-
By the way, here is a shot from the game with the 70-200. It's nowhere close to being one of my best basketball shots, but maybe the best of the day (did I mention I hate the 70-200?) (the 85mm is so much better for b-ball). I believe most of my problem with this shot is motion blur.....what do you think? It was shot at 1/400th!? Does this look as soft as the 70-200 is supposed to look wide open?<div></div>

I just got a 70-200mm f/2.8, which I hate. It just seems so soft to me. I came
home from shooting a basketball game with the 70-200 and decided I would test a
few things. It turns out that the 70-200 is soft but pretty much where it needs
to be for a zoom. BUT, I founda bigger problem. My 24-105mm L is as soft as a
butter knife. The test shot I am posting is a handheld shot with the 85mm f/1.8
on the top and the 24-105mm L on the bottom. The shooting info is: f/8,
1/320th, ISO 800, with ex 420 flash (direct). I center focused on the "2" in
200. The reason I asked if this was fair was because the 85mm is a prime and
razor sharp. Is the 24-105 supposed to be as sharp? I hope it is supposed to be
sharper than what it is though! My 70-200 is sharper than the 24-105, but not
as sharp as the 85.
Any help or advice is appreciated. I think I need to have it calibrated. I
still hate the 70-200. It's not sharp enough or long enough for the price I
paid for it. I think that I am just spoiled by the 85mm f/1.8. WOW what a lens!<div></div>

The more I look at the map, I think that I'm not going to make it to New Mexico. It's a little too far. I would love to go there more than anything though. I believe that I may go through ARK, OK, and south to Texas. I want to keep it a 3 day trip if I can. Maybe 4. My wife isn't real thrilled with the idea. Is OK pretty flat? I really have no idea what the land looks like.
-
Thank you very much for that. That's the kind of info I'm looking for.

Hi everyone. I am in the very early stages of planning a road trip for the
purpose of photographing landscapes and landmarks. I live in southern KY, just
north of Nashville. I think I may travel I-40 west through Ark, OK, Tex, and
New Mex. I hope that someone can tell me some MUST have shots along the way. I
have never been out there before. I don't want to travel too far from I-40
because of time. People who live along that road in any of those states, please
chime in. I'm going to each state's website to search for attractions, but I
would like some photographer views as well. Thanks everyone!
Also, I really want to see Colorado while I'm out there. Will the roads be
pretty clear in southeast COL the last week of this month? I want to see the
Rockies but don't have to go up in them.
One more thing. Spring usually starts here the first week of April (trees get
leaves and flowers bloom.) Will I see any nice flowers along this road the last
week of March?

Have some fun with them. Remember that these people are just doing their jobs, I know they suck, but it's their job. Then try to have fun. I usually either play really dumb, or sometimes just talk to them about things that are going on in my life until they get bored and hang up. Google "Tom Mabe". Do what he does.

It upsets me. I think it's a bunch of BS. It's just a high school. I could understand a college doing this, but not HS. This is going to cause some problems with media. The newspaper I shoot for claims that they own all images of mine that they print. I wonder how that would work with a school claiming to own the same image. The way I see it, If I want to sell a picture to some parents, I'm gonna do it. Nobody around here is going to say anything to me about it. I'm in southern KY, nobody cares.
