There are some people giving 3/3s consistantly. I've had some photos do quite well (for my ability... high 5s) but someone insists on giving it a 3/3. That would be fine IF the person explained why they are giving a rating so different from the others.
By the way, you can see what ratings people are handing out if you go to thier photo.net "home page". The ratings are actually listed... I find it amazing to see some people handing out 1s and 2s. I think it is more constructive to critique the photo (potentially helping the photographer) rather than slamming thier photo with a 1 or a 2.
Sounds like we need to talk to the photo.net powers that be and suggest that a rating lower than 4 must be accompanied with a critique.

Florin,
thanks for the kind comment, especially coming from someone with some fantastic abstracts!

Fantastic composition! I like your description of how you came upon the shot. For as many times as I would like to think I planned a shot I find that I "happen upon" a shot more often.
What I love about this shot is the strong diagonal line intermixed with the lines of the near dune and lines of the far dunes and water. The colors are graphic and simple; yellow and blue... fantastic complementary colors. The far dune displays the idea of the shape of an entire dune and the near dune displays the detail of the dune.
Once again, Fantastic!!!

No photoshop mods except some "curves work" to bring out the color
inside the pots. The water had something in it that gave it a blue
color and produced foam (like soap). I don't know if this was
intentional. The shot was taken on an overcast day at the Denver
Botanical Garden.
