1. FWIW, this also just happened to me, also with Kodak Tmax 400, pushed a stop. Same paper bleed through on the first 5 images only... very disappointing! Nothing to do with x-Ray machine (as mine was shot and developed within 3 days, and no machines to go through.
 2. Thanks for the responses, all. Larry- I don't know the batch number unfortunately; this was a single roll purchased in a Shanghai, China (where I live) shop from an opened box of 5 rolls- I don't think it was expired or old, as this shop sells quite a bit of film and they just open the larger boxes if you only want to buy one roll. I bought it as a test roll for the camera to compare to Tmax 100, both pushed a stop, but all the Tmax 100 shots were fine, and even the last 6-7 frames on this bad roll were fine with none of the same burning effect from the paper backing. Odd that it happened with Kodak, but live and learn I suppose. At any rate, I'm honestly more relieved that it's not a camera problem or my error at this point, and will certainly be a little more cautious of buying rolls from opened boxes in the future!
 3.
Well - kind of troubling, but at least it wasn't me I suppose. :) It was a one-off cartridge, so no risk that the whole box was bad, but disappointing. Really appreciate the responses to know why it happened - thanks Peter and Larry!

 5.

I'm getting back into shooting film - and this is from a test roll of Tmax 400 on a newly CLA'd Rolleiflex Automat MX-EVS (so, 120 film obviously). Can anyone help me figure out what went wrong here? The imprint of the 'kodak' and numbers seems to be... maybe from the film paper backing? It only happened in the first 5 shots, but I'm trying to determine if this was my error (perhaps loading the film?) - or a developer error. It's burned into the negative either way... other images on the roll were fine... any help troubleshooting appreciated!
