Beautiful color in the sky reflected in the lake- this is a very peaceful scene. I love the waterfront property- nice holiday spot! I am wondering what aperature was used for such depth of field and crisp detail.

I like the composition- a somewhat foreboding sky over the quiet square. Nice tones.

Very beautiful capture.

You have found a great scene and captured the colors and multiple textures wonderfully. Nicely composed with crisp focus.

Beautiful shot- I like the texture. I can almost feel the warmth of the sun on my face... ;-)

Wow- thanks guys. I realy appreciate the support. This is from the very 1st roll of film I shot fully manually last year when I got back into photography. I was just looking back at some earlier work (before I discovered slide film) and thought I'd put my scanner to full use. There was actually minimal manipulation done to this scene ("clean-up", more than anything). I'm glad you like it, and thanks again for your comments.

Are you some kind of weird stalker?

Neil- I can only chuckle at the last part of your comment.... Thank you for your thoughts though- as I said, *all* comments are welcome. I am on this group to learn first and foremost, not to have sunshine blown up my butt if it's a rainy day. If I'm not doing something right, I want to know about it (if it's fair, that is). I really don't care about ratings that much, only those that are low with no explanation as to why, or how I could improve the shot. I agree that what you see is what you should rate/comment on. I was not trying to make excuses for poor technique.

Thanks guys- I did want to blow out the background somewhat to focus on the dog, but unfortunately the end jpeg product you are looking at does not do justice to the resolution and exposure on the print. This was also hand-held with a pretty slow lens zoomed in, causing further loss of definition. This was done at the cabin, where there are many large rocks below the surface that he swims around to find, and then jump off of. This guy can play like this by himself for hours!

This Dog LOVES the water. Image 1 in a series of three. All critiques

looking, hope you enjoy....

Thanks Markos- That is pretty much the crop I tried with this photo, unfortunately I still see the barrel distortion on the left (it is better however). I can't remember what focal length I used for sure, but I tend to shoot non- landscapes at 50mm, so I figure that's what this one is at. My EF 50/1.4 also has a bit of barrel distortion, but not as bad as this cheaper zoom (I did not have it at the time though). I will definitely try future shots like this with more telephoto to reduce barrel distortion- what focal length do you suggest?

Thanks so much for your comments- I agree there is something odd about the composition though. It isn't an illusion, it's actually barrel distortion (most obvious on the left side)- a very aggravating effect of cheaper lenses. As for crops, I don't know what I would do with this image, as I always try to keep to 'printable' sizes. Suggestions welcome. Thanks again.

I've had mixed reviews on this one from family and friends. I don't
think it's a particularily notable photo, but I love the differences
in textures in this light. I've tried many different crops, but none
seem to work for me (and I try to keep my shots to normal print
dimensions). All critiques are welcome, but please leave feedback if
rating 3 or less. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful color. Silouette effectively done.

Thanks so much for your comments guys. This is actually a 3 level outdoor spiral stair that leads down to the boardwalk along the Long Beach waterfront. I had been watching it for a few days, trying to figure out how to photograph it. This was the best attempt I made.
The white area is the sky beyond, and there was just no way to get rid of it unfortunately. I agree that the loss in detail at the top of the stair is a pity, but slide film has a pretty narrow dynamic range- I got as much out of it as I could. I tried a couple different exposures and this was the best one- increased exposure blew out the bottom highlights.
