A friend asked me to make her avatar background all black. I don't know how to do it. Would someone be willing to help, thanks.

Thanks for the info Lex. I'm guessing that adapter wouldn't be compatible with my 300mm f/4 AFS D lens due to the electrical contacts?

I also see on Amazon that Fotodiox makes a Nikon G-type, and DX-Type Lens to Nikon 1-Series Camera adapter (no contacts), but I don't see how you could adjust the aperture. Any ideas how it would work?

Mary: Is your camera set to Mup (top left dial)? I don't know if that will help with the error code but worth a look.

Andre,
After examining it closely with a magnifying glass it's definitely internal. The outer element is smooth and shiny in the area of question. I might send it to Nikon for cleaning, I doubt they would have a replacement element beings the lens is 35+ years old. Thanks for everyone's input.

Mark, The first photo was taken with a 60mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor but I redid it and got in good and close, pic was cropped and re-sized. This shows the area better.

@Kevin, I'm not sure of it's entire history but the person I bought it from lived in Boston. It doesn't appear to affect my photos, I've taken many pics with light and dark backgrounds etc. and can't find any issues with it. Here is one sample shot with this lens taken on a D300 (lens was factory Ai'd).

D300 Value?
in Nikon

Check on ebay for recent completed auctions. It should help in figuring out a fair value. There's one that had 27K actuation's and went for $850.00

This is a Nikon 16mm. f/3.5 Auto Fisheye (first version). There is a very small blemish about 1.5mm across and shaped like a doughnut. I've owned this lens for about 5 years and it was like this when I got it. I don't think it's fungus but not entirely sure, the rest of the front element and internals are flawless. Any idea what this blemish is?
It looks much worse in the photo, the mark is more opaque.

Took this shot 3 hours ago, temperature was balmy, skies were nice and clear. Lots of great photos here.

On second thought- If you're not sure how to safely remove the broken piece of lens mount don't do it as the shutter curtain is a very delicate mechanism.
You may be better off taking it in to have it repaired by a professional.

Seems to me you have diagnosed the problem, part of the lens mount has broken off and is lodged in the shutter curtain. What lens is that?
If it were me, I'd very, very carefully extract the chunk of lens mount out of there with tweezers.
Let us know how it works out.

I use ArmorAll wipes on the rubber grip areas. I follow up with a cotton cloth to absorb any excess.

Mark,
Try turning the Shutter speed/mode dial (next to shutter release button) while depressing it's center post to M250 (M =mechanical).
The batteries may be exhausted. The camera will not work correctly without good batteries.
