The air quality and lighting in New Zealand makes me green with envy... even at the airport!!! Well done and well seen, the tonal range is superb. Chris

Ali, this is a great shot, not too over-sharpened with plenty of detail in the feathers, great colour control and a classic pose. The eyes burn through the lens at you. I presume this great hunter was tethered?!?! Regards Chris.

Richard, this is a wonderful shot... well done.

Melanie, Lennart and Stuart for your kind words... I won't say photographing this scene and capturing the mood was easy... but it is easier when the subject matter just screams at you like this... a truly beautiful place. Chris.

Comments welcomed on this atmospheric shot of this famous Scottish
landmark.

An alternate shot similar to a previous post with more foreground
detail. This is St Nicholas' Church on Princes Street, Edinburgh.
The Christmas lights and Winter Festival Wheel are clearly lit up,
defining a strong perspective here. Comments welcomed.

Nice contrast and great composition... I like the fact that she looks like she is about to say something 6/7
-
Nice... perhaps a little more saturation of the reds to bring out the leaves.

This is the Ferris Wheel from the Edinburgh Winter Festival. I took
a few shots of this last year too but experience has moved on since
and I am much happier with this batch of shots, this one in
particular. Comments welcomed.

Hey Linda, I'm sorry to hear that... Just goes to show how important photographs become. Chris

I too prefer the original file, it's warmer and saturated, showing off the stone of the Castle. You need to watch the noise on the images with the Castle as the exposure meter can be fooled by the spotlights. I'd suggest putting this image through Noise Ninja or similar in PS... Edinburgh is so atmospheric at night... take a look at the few shots I have at http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=567781... Regards, Chris.

Very funny picture, made me laugh out loud.

Great capture of the water falling. I like the almost ghost-like nature of the falls, however a tighter crop might would have worked better for me. Still a great photograph though, well done.

Thanks Biliana and Julayne... I think the second adjustment works better too... it takes a while to get your head around what Calculations is doing but I think I'm getting there. Chris

Thanks Pete

Enrique, this is a great shot but I think it needs the colour pushing a little. On my monitor (which I have just freshly profiled) I get a magenta colour cast. Otherwise a great image. Chris

Fantastic Peter, this is a great shot considering the time you had available. How do you get on with the extender? I was toying with the idea of getting a 2x for my 70-200 f2.8L IS... do all functions work OK when attached?

Thanks for the comments Bente and Henri. Henri, I think the effect you've pointed out has come from the method used to desaturate the image. I used a Soft Light blend mode of the Red and Blue channels in the Calculations dialog in Photoshop. This has had the net effect of reducing the clouds across the moon leaving it looking like the moon is in front of the clouds. I have attached a revised calculations attempt and this one is much better I hope you agree. Chris.

Alex this is a superb shot and I love the composition and the colour. Exposure is spot on... speaking of spots though, I couldn't help notice that in the right of the shot you appear to have some dust on the sensor of your camera or a rain spot on your lens...could even be a blurred duck... In any case it is a tad distracting and I would crop or clone it out to give the picture the perfect 7/7.

This is an amalgum of two shots, changing th sky to this cloudy but
full moonlit night. St Cuthberts Church stands in the foreshadow of
Edinburgh Castle on Lothian Road. Comments very welcome.
