  1. <p>It's true, I'm a resolution idiot. <br />But here's my question, and I'm sorry if it's ridiculous. I don't even know how to phrase it so I find an answer in a search.<br>

I'm using an Epson V700 and Silverfast AI software. I edit in CS4. I'm confused about Original size and Output size. If I'm scanning a 35mm slide for example, it shows me that the Original size is 1.4x0.9. Fine, I get that. I also understand how to set my resolution, and how to figure out what resolution I want for the desired size. What do I do with the Output size? (The software won't actually let me set the output size where I want the final print to be, so I know that I'm not getting something.) Then when I open the file in Photoshop, I have a scan at the resolution that I set, but it's size is 1.4x0.9, is that what I want? Do I then determine the image size in photoshop? At what stage of the process? Before I begin retouching it or at the end? I seems counter-intuitive to me to have little inch by inch scans. If I don't set the Output size, what is it even there for? Do I ever change the scale or Q-factor?</p>

<p>Final question, what are the best color settings to use? I've scanned a lot of prints and have always just left it on 48-24bit color and the results have been fine. What will I see differently when scanning film? This is my first foray into neg/slide scanning, so please forgive my ignorance! Til now I've scanned prints, and I've always just set the Output size to the size print I want in the end, and have had no trouble. <br />Thanks so much,<br>

  2. If you have a sturdy car and feel confident about driving on curvy gravel, ask a local how to get to Red Grade Road and head up the mountain. It's probably not the best road but the views are spectacular. Otherwise take Hwy 14 toward Burgess Jct. I think it's just over an hour from Sheridan. Evenings will find lots of animal sightings; deer are plentiful, you'll probably see lots of elk, and moose are abundant as well. I've always spotted moose around Woodchuck pass, but again it's a gravel road to get there. Grab a map of the area and have fun! I've been up there before around this time in years past and the wildflowers were just crazy blooming. Wish I could get up there myself!
