Beau, yeah I still prefer a grad nd or even exposure blending. I find the results are far more realistic and I have more control of the results.
Van, you're absolutely right.

When I first read about HDR, I thought it was a great concept. I even saw some
really good HDR images. Lately, it seems as though HDR has turned into some
crazy cartoonish technique rather than it's intended purpose of creating images
with higher dynamic range than a digital sensor can capture with one exposure.
The perplexing thing is, there seems to be droves that find these images very
appealing. What are your thoughts on these images?

I can see both points of view. Wow, I sound like a politician.

To answer your question, no, it can't be fixed in Photoshop. Photoshop is an awesome program but it can't fix everything. Parts of the heads of the 2 boys are just totally blown and there's no bringing that back. Perhaps this would have been better if you were positioned in a way that the sun was placed directly behind someone's head instead of in a gap or wait until the sun goes down a bit further. Also, a fill flash would have helped. I would also warn that to improve your photography, you do not take the mindset of Photoshop can fix it. Get it right with the camera and use Photoshop to enhance your photos, not fix them.

I have to agree with Keith here. Come on Manasi. Did you even think to read the manual?

The 50mm f/1.4 is a great lens and it's under $300.

Seems to me that ISO400 was a good choice considering the low light situation. If the ISO were any lower, you would probably be dealing with either really dark images or blurry images.

I dropped my 10-22mm a couple of days ago. It cracked in half so consider yourself lucky. I'm sending mine to Canon's repair shop in NJ.

LOL, Kelly you're funny. ;)

I got a great idea for the anonymous ratings issue. If you don't want anonymous ratings, don't put them up for ratings. It's a guaranteed to work every time.

I made the statement regarding an L series because L series are typically heavier.
-
I have one and I can tell you that it will not be stable with the 70-200 lens on it. Actually, I wouldn't trust it with any L lens on it.

Trust me Brent. It's worth every penny.

If anybody had any doubts about which body performs better in low light / high
ISO, I'm here to tell you that the 1D Mark III blows away the 5D. The 5D is
amazing in low light but the 1D Mark III is just that much beter. I took some
shots last night at a restaurant with very little light. Here's one at ISO

Actually, you said they were JUST as good. That would mean they were equally good. Not better. Not worse. But equal.

It's your lighting. The images look flat. You're right. There's no depth. Try shooting outdoors at the majic hour with a fill flash and see if you have the same issue. I'm willing to bet, it's not your printer but rather, what you're feeding it.

"I have only recently bought a DSLR and whereas I get FANTASTIC shots with it, I did my first wedding shoot with a disposable camera and the pictures were just as good!"

If that's truly the case, you may want to practice a bit more on your DSLR. I know equipment is only a fraction of the equation of producing great photographs, but come on. That's like saying "I can complete a race driving scooter as fast as if I were driving a Porcshe"

Why am I suprised everytime someone mentions places like bestpricecameras.com. Do some research before handing over your dough.

Stop me if you've heard this one before.
A famous chef hires a photographer to photograph some of his entrees for
advertisements. The chef is so impressed with the photographs, he also hires
the photographer for a family portrait. Again, the chef is amazed at the
quality of the photographs and says to the photographer, ?You must have a
really great camera because it takes extraordinary pictures.? The chef invites
the photographer to his restaurant for a meal on the house. The photographer
orders a 7 course meal and enjoys every bite. The photographer compliments the
chef by saying ?You must have some really good pots and pans, because the food
was delicious.?

I was lucky enough to get mine two weeks ago with the blue dot.

It's not the obligation of the photographer to supply information so others can learn. If you have questions regarding the details behind an image, ask the photographer.
