Will I be able to get ETTL and High Speed Sync capabilities with this setup:

Off Camera ETTL Cord connected to the hotshoe of my camera and the other end of the cord connected to a STE2. The STE2 will have direct line of sight to a few 580EXIIs and 430EXIIs.

Some might ask why not just connect the STE2 directly to the hotshoe of the camera? I found an Off Camera ETTL Cord from flashzebra.com that is 25 ft long. This will allow me to have more flexibility with the placement of my flashes. So, has anyone tried this? Thanks in advanced for the help.

Why not try manual focus? Or you can use the bottom focus point which will more than likely focus on foregrond objects than the background.

What's up with the worldwide shortage on 5D Mark II batteries? I've had one on preorder from Adorama for a month now and it's still on back order. I've looked everywhere and it seems like all merchants have them on backorder. Why? Was this a lack of planning on Canon's part? Does anyone know where to get an extra battery now? Thanks.

Back button focusing is CFn IV-1. I set mine to 3 which takes the focusing off the shutter release button and places it on the AF On button.

-

For most sports you want to use AI Servo. I use either the middle or the inner focus points for football and basketball. You should probably get used to using the back button focusing methods as well.

Brian, I was using a 1D Mark III and a 50D with the following lenses, all shot wide open. 135mmL f/2, 85mm f/1.8, 70-

ISO3200.

I really can't answer that. I'm a Canon shooter so I'm not familiar with Nikon gear, but I will say that it will give you better
results than what you're getting now just because it's 2 stops faster.
-
1/60 is way too slow. You have to be able to get absolutely no lower than 1/400 to freeze the action....for high school.
College and Pros will be much faster. f/2.8 will be 2 stops faster which means hypothetically you'll be able to get 1/180-
1/240....still too slow. I hate using flash but you may have to in this situation.

Nikon's D3 has the edge on Canon right now for noise-free, low-light action shooting, as evidenced by more and more
black 400/2.8's attached to D3's showing up on the sidelines at MLB and NFB games and the Olympics.

I still see more white lenses than black ones.

Keep in mind that a 10MP camera can do 24x36 prints easy. Also noise is less visible on paper than it is on the screen.
Also keep in mind that noise reduction filters like Noise Ninja do a great job of concealing noise.

My first DSLR was the 20D, then the 5D. Sold both since and have had pro bodies since. 1D Mark III and 1Ds Mark III. I thought the pro
bodies were going to be bulky and cumbersome but they actually feel nice and I have gotten used to them. I just got the 50D and it feels
so puny and awkward especially if I have a large lens mounted on it. I was thinking of getting a battery grip for it. Does a battery grip give a
smaller camera a similar feeling to the pro bodies? Are there any disadvantages to battery grips?
-
Ahh, okay. In that case, no Kelly. That was taken with the 1Ds Mark III.

Filter holder for 16-35mmL f/2.8 II
in Canon EOS Mount
Posted

I'm switching from a Cokin P Series system to the Lee system. It's going to be a costly switch since I have 8 Singh Ray graduated NDs. I'm not that familiar with the Lee system so I was hoping to solicit some help.
I just got the new Canon 16-35mm L f/2.8 II lens. It has an 83mm thread size. When I was shooting with the 16-35mm L f/2.8 first version on a full frame, and the 10-22mm on a 7D, the Cokin P Series sized filters were fine. Cokin makes a wide angle filter holder that only has one slot and doesn’t extend far from the lens so vignetting was not an issue. Keep in mind that the first version of the 16-35mm and the 10-22mm both have a 77mm thread size. I bought an 82mm adapter ring for the new 16-35mm however, it still vignettes with the wide angle holder up until I get to around 21mm. Not surprisingly so since the P series filters barely cover the front of the new 16-35mm lens.
So, which Lee holder should I get?
Again, I'll be using it with a 5D Mark II and the new 16-35mm L f/2.8 II lens. I want to be able to shoot at 16mm without any vignetting. I'd also like to be able to use the larger 4x6 Singh Ray grad ND filters with the Lee system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
