Q.G., the camera is on the tripod. It actually has a kind of funny story to it. It's a good example of getting more than your money's worth. It started when a friend that works for the city as a garbage collector was on the Church St. run. On Church St. downtown is the famous Henry's Camera. They put a bag of trash out back and my friend took a peek in the bag. It turns out 95% of what was in the bag really was trash. There were three things I salvaged. The first being a Ricoh f2/50mm lens in K-mount, with a built on auto focus device. I sold it for a few bucks at a camera show as at that time I had nothing in K-mount and I have all kinds of other lenses in 50mm. The next was a Hanimex f4.5/200 lens in screw mount that I managed to lose somewhere. It was battle worn, but the glass was good. Lastly was this here Hiyoca. It has a f2.8/45mm Kendor lens on it. It doesn't have the usual purplish hue in its reflections, but rather a yellowish tinge which to me is a good thing. When I first examined it, the shutter was very slow and the rangefinder was seized. A good naphta flush fixed the shutter. The rangefinder took a bit of alcohol, a couple of drops of sewing machine oil and some exercise to free it up. Ultimately, it's fully functional. The viewfinder window has a crack in it, but that doesn't affect anything. I felt good enough about this camera that I was willing to use it to shoot the candids at a friend's wedding. It did not embarrass me the least.

Hi all. It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to get some shooting in, but Friday at work, the stars lined up. On my "new" delivery route, I pick up the mail from a drug store postal outlet. Around five Friday afternoon, I couldn't get a parking spot nearby and I noticed the abundance of tow trucks. Then as I looked around, I noticed a number of cars sporting body damage. The more I looked, the more damage I saw. Luckily, for whatever reason, I had a camera handy. It was my Hiyoca with a roll of Kodak Gold 200 as well as a Gossen Bisix 2 light meter. I parked the mail truck up the street, grabbed the camera and went down to check out the entertainment.

I still have my first camera. It is a Kodak Signet 35. It currently is sitting on the shelf waiting for me to clean the shutter again. It has a nice little lens, but the shutter is the Achilles Heel. I still have a film in it with a buggered frame or two.

I bought a roll of black yarn at Walmart for four dollars and still have 99% of it left. I resealed my Yashica A with it and a couple of drops of crazy glue (applied with a needle) only to find the leak came from the tripod mount. I fixed that with a piece of black electrical tape.

Russian rangefinders are easy to adjust.

I always wrap a piece of rubber tubing around my arm before I change the batteries on my cameras... so there.

I second the Nikkormat FT2. It has a horizontal split screen, but it has everything else you asked for. I love mine. I also have an SRT101. You can use your flash if it has a cable and you slip a piece of electrical tape over the hot shoe contact.

There's a catch... they kept the laces. The story is what did they do with the laces???

Ralf, they're wonderful. I really love the Velvia shots.

I don't shoot anything these days. Work has kept me so occupied that I haven't had time to eat let alone run around with a camera and shoot things. I think work is overrated. There are still places in Toronto that process for five bucks, but I don't know for how long. Walmart still develops the odd film that I shoot although I haven't had time to scan the last one yet (five bucks for process only at the Milner Ave. store). Phoenix Imaging does my 120 for five bucks (process only). For slide film, I have to go uptown, but again, for how much longer?

Tony, do you live in Thornhill or Scarborough, or does this happen elsewhere too?

... puddle of drool builds on keyboard...

Easiest way to check them out is against a hand held meter that is known to be good.

Fantastic set as always. Thank you so much for posting. Time hasn't allowed me the luxury of photographing anything the past few months.

Really nice set from a lovely camera. I have an SRT also, although the meter follower has become disconnected. The meter itself is still functional and accurate. If I didn't have such a full range of lenses for my Nikkormat and herd of screwmounts, I'd have spent more money on Minolta lenses. The few Rokkors that I have are both as good as it gets (to me).
