I'm expecting to sell my house in the spring time and with the sale and a few bucks in my pocket, I plan to reclaim my life. I got involved in a company that provides a platform for online shopping that is designed to benefit the collective rather than the individual. It's basically a two to three year business plan designed to provide a residual income. It's not multi level marketing. I checked out one example of that some years back and after four of their meetings, the culture of them had me running for the door. This one is so good it's almost magical. Unorthodox, yes, but magical. A lot to learn, a lot to gain. A lot to look forward to. Just have to get out of this rut first.

Rangefinders Make a Comeback!
Rob_the_waste replied to marc_bergman1's topic in Classic Manual Film Cameras
I have a Minolta Super A with three lenses. I got it as part of a package..I got it with a Rolleicord IV where both kits were immaculate for $250. I couldn't identify the Minolta at first because I didn't know how to disconnect the meter at the time. I found out from E-bay that the Minolta was/is worth more than what I paid for both. The Super A still is in factory shape. The owner took great care of it. You have to remove the meter to be able to set the shutter at 1/400 sec. It's a beautiful example of what's great about rangefinder cameras, but also the hinderances that left them behind with the advent of SLR's. The meter on this one is now in need of some minor repair, but otherwise it's a fantastic outfit. -

Thanks Marc. I didn't retire. I'm just on disability until the doctors and the post office figure out what they can do to (with) me. It's been a challenge. I've gone from a 40 hour paycheck, flyer money, and overtime to 70% of a 40 hour check. The bills didn't get any smaller. Things got lean. I'm working on a Plan C now so that I may not have to go back to the post in a year and a bit. I have to find a way to improve my cash flow in the meantime. I haven't bought any more film cameras as I have enough (bet you never thought you'd hear that on this forum). Like I always said at work, "One day this will all start to make sense. Today is not that day... tomorrow isn't looking so good either."

Rick, that lens looks like a beautiful sample and the pictures as always are beautiful. It's a sign the camera and lens are in good hands. -
Wow, what a change. I think it's been a year or two since I've been on this forum. I had an adventure with my father's dog (since his passing the dog and cat are mine). When Snoop tipped the canoe and killed my Canon digicam, I stayed mainly digital with my new (at the time) Panasonic Lumix. However, since Mike Costea showed me about developing black and white, I've swung in that direction and over the past year's camera shows I've picked up a supply of black and white films. It's kept my FT2 busy as well as an assortment of other dinosaurs. In case anybody was hoping, sorry, no I didn't die. My life has taken me in some different directions the past few years, but I still love the old film cameras. The last year has been an ongoing fire sale and I've sold off a number of power tools, lawn mowers, and most of my firearms, but dammit, only one camera (a Canon EOS battery powered auto-focus which doesn't fit this forum the last time I checked). Thankfully, I sold NONE of my classic manual cameras. Maybe it's because nobody really cared. Maybe it's because nobody really knew I was still using them. Unfortunately the last films I got developed were older than the camera and the colours were all wonky. I'm planning to go up to my trailer and pick up a couple of bags of D76 that I stashed there before winter set in. My truck finally died after 530k. You can say what you want about Fords, this one's service for me was legendary. It went to hell and back and was on the second tour of duty when a connecting rod most likely snapped and locked the motor. I started having trouble with my knees at work and the trouble eventually moved into my hip where it's kept me off work for the past year. I still love shooting the film cameras and I just recently resurrected (again) my Kodak Signet 35 (sorry JDM if you're still around here). I will be posting the films as soon as I develop them. I've fairly recently used the Moskva 2 (just serviced that shutter too), FT2, Fed 5C and Rolleicord IV. The Signet 35 currently has a roll of Kentmere 400 in it. It feels weird being back in this forum.

17 Classic Cameras at a Wedding
Rob_the_waste replied to Brad Cloven's topic in Classic Manual Film Cameras
Juanita, first and foremost, from the misfortune of one of my delivery customers that didn't read the instruction manual, if your camera will have curtain shutters, never set the shutter speed faster than the flash sync if you're taking flash pictures. I got a Minolta ST201 for free because of that. -

How does it look with a lens on? Maybe a pic of that might help. Maybe the mirror is improperly positioned. Is the mirror all the way down?
-
I've Joined the "A" Team

Steve, the thumbwheel is for the shutter speed. I have a similar set up on my Super A except for one difference. The thumbwheel is set more to the right so that it integrates with the dial on the Minolta meter.

Rick, you've rattled my cage. Now I have to take that Super A out and give it a go. Wonderful shots. I take #2 personally. :-)
-

I recently had an adventure that turned into something quite revealing. I met up with a fellow P-Netter at his house to learn about processing film (Yesssssssss, I'm finally starting at the business end). The trick is to marry a woman that supports the hobby. The house is a wall to wall photo gallery in beautifully framed images and the living parts of the house are adorned with both furniture and cameras mounted on tripods. OMG!!! Where do you find a woman like that?

What part of it is causing you the problem? I'm guessing it being a Helios, the lens mount is either M39 or M42.
-
“I’m never going to buy a Leica!” … Except …
Rob_the_waste replied to Brad Cloven's topic in Classic Manual Film Cameras

I remember once I was out on my deliveries and I came to somebody's house and we started talking cameras. He went inside and came out with an M6 and a Summicron. He let me hold it... I was afraid to touch it. He let me take a picture with it. I never got to see the result as I got transferred somewhere else shortly after that. That's my whole Leica experience. It felt great. It looked great. I wonder...
It's nothing like your story... dammit.
-

I was curious if anybody knows what the trigger voltage is on a Vivitar 5200. I just picked one up at a camera show for five bucks. It works fine, and I'm just wondering if I can safely use it on my digital camera (Panasonic FZ200). It would seem to be in the same class as the Vivitar 285HV which has a trigger voltage around 8vdc.

-

Will, I can tell you a bit about all three flashes. The Vivitar 283 and 285 are close together except the 285 lets you adjust the flash intensity by moving the lens in or out for wide angle to telephoto coverage. Funnily enough, I just picked up a 5200 at a camera show today for five bucks. It's just a slightly advanced LCD version of the 285. The flashes as far as I know (and all others for that matter) have an effective duration of around 1/4000 second. I personally never use a shutter speed faster than 1/30 second as I like some ambient light in my pictures.
