  1. That is correct and you are speaking of the 14n. The current sensors that are made by Kodak

professional division are CCD and Phase one uses all Kodak sensors , the other is obviously

leica for the R and the M, there maybe one or two others also, leaf is a Dalsa sensor. The 14n

was fill factory and has nothing to do with Kodak professional division

  2. You have to remember Kodak makes the Phase One sensors and look at those prices. All i am

saying is it is not as bad as it seems. It's a limitation but so is making a 10k sensor that no

one will buy for 35mm. Like I said we can argue it till the cows come home but honestly once

you get used to it, really not that bad.

  3. I know this maybe hard to swallow guys and coming from FF all my working life but after

14 months of the 1.3 on the DMR , i really have lost that i want a FF camera syndrome. it

really is somewhat meaningless , if you are getting the quality from the 1.3 than it does

not matter at all. the real and only issue is we are stuck on the old number system of

lenses in our heads, guilty as charged also. Hard to think differently after thirty years but

really it is just a number . now having said that lenses need to be reinvented a little to

match as well as in price. A 15mm 2.8 for my DMR costs a absolute fortune and that needs

to change. Look at Nikon as a example the changed a lot of there lenses to match that

sensor. What many don't understand is the the money that goes into a FF sensor and there

is really no one doing it like canon. leica , Nikon depend on vendors for this stuff. so just

saying lets get a FF sensor is one thing but everything changes along with it and the costs

are very high which comes right down back to your pocket. Do we honestly think the

1dsMKII was worth 8k when it came out , well i bought one because that was all ther was

but it is not worth that price. we can argue this one till the cows come home but after

awhile that need just seems to fade. We just need some lense to cover the lost area of

wide at a reasonable price and half the complaints would go away as long as there is no

loss in the sensor quality between the two. There is no doubt in my mind this is as good

as the DMR if not better and in the noise area it will be. But this will sell very well. I

honestly believe a whole new technology needs to come about for us to see 24x36mm

sensors from someone other than canon and they have there own issues with FF.

  4. It's a good question. not sure it would be better or worse than the DMR , I do know this in 14

months with the DMR i have only cleaned it 3 times and obviously it is the easiest sensor to

clean. The M maybe easier to clean than canons and Nikons because it will be a LOT closer to

the lens mount , so that will help with the digging in issue . Plus there is no mirror at all so

really i would assume at this point it will be very easy to clean.

  5. Here is what i know leica has done , they not only painted the codes but they first engraved

them in or machined out depneding how you look at it , otherwise if just applied they would

wear off, also Leica DOES have a patent on this actually several. So trying to do this would

most likely infringe on that patent. Not a area that i would dare go , as a pro i protect my

copyright . The other thing they are doing is if you send a lens in for the code they

completely replace the rear mount with ones that already are ready to go and than calibrate

it. This makes it a faster process than taking your mount and doing it. I am sure you can do

this yourself to some degreee but my lawyer instinct or little knowledge of the law says your

infringing on that patient be it for yourself or for 100's of people. i personally won't go there

  6. Hello Guy,

Our new re-designed parts are now complete and we shipped you the very first new Leica Eyepiece

Magnifier late today via overnight FedEx . Will create some new images for the web site soon.

  7. Joseph what a lot of folks don't know is the DMR sensor is actually almost or is FF in size on the back. never measured it myself but they only use a portion of it because of film rails and such plus i am sure there is circuits on the edges , so basically the only use of it is or was 1.37 . looks like to me that the M they are able to squeeze a little more out of it maybe because the film rails are gone and such, not a engineer here but that is my guess is the just could get a little more real estate out of it. From all that i have been told the sensors are the same but certain things are different like the electronics and the other things you mentioned make sense. But the bottom line is being the DMR sensor than we are in for a treat , it is very very good. now just figuring a way to have both the M and R systems. LOL
  8. Here is the official word 1.33 which i thought all along

Lenses bought in the past will be converted at the request of the customer for 95 euros at

the Customer Service of Leica Camera AG in Solms or the Leica agencies of other countries.

Many of the lenses made from 1963 onwards can be converted. A list of such models is

available on the following pages or from the Leica Info-Service (Tel. 06442/208-111). The

only lens in the current range that will not be given a 6-bit coding is the LEICA APO-TELYT-M

135 mm f/3.4. It is not codable later, either, as its extension factor of 1.33 makes it

unsuitable for use on the planned digital M camera. The launch of the digital Leica

rangefinder camera is planned for the second half of 2006.

Guy: "DMR. I am just not real pleased with the long awaited firmware fix from 1.2....at this point the wait on the firmware upgrade is borderline incompetent."

I'm fed up with the bashers coming here and attacking the best digital camera on the market. Sickening, absolutely sickening.

Always looking for a war. Imacon is the issue. Still waiting for you to actually say something worth reading. I think this refers back to my orginal assestment . Troll

  10. Joseph a round of appaulse you hit it all just perfect along with other comments also. I did hear from a leica rep 1.33 but he maybe wrong also. They only hope or wish that i can give the M8 folks , which BTW is the offical name. Is in regard to the Jenoptiks firmware and is better than the Imacons on the DMR. I am just not real pleased with the long awaited firmware fix from 1.2 and i bet a dozen donuts it is Imacon dragging there feet again, there are some issues that can be fixed in the DMR and it really should get done and it has been a long wait. So that relationship with Jenoptiks i am hoping is a much better one with leica. this sometimes can be a issue with outside vendors and leica needs to keep a good handle on this in the future. They will build the bodies but rely heavily on suppliers and they need to keep a close eye on this. Because at this point the wait on the firmware upgrade is borderline incompetent.
  11. Marc you just reminded me of the new Flexcolor 4.6 thanks . I forgot to download it and try it again. Thanks

For me in C1 i use a touch of sharpening for the DMR . Soft look 56 and threshold 3. Not a lot at all but it does give it just a little extra pop.

Marc if I remeber Flex even at the 0 setting it still is sharpening . Someone said take it to like -120 for no sharpening. Do you find that to be somewhat correct.

  12. I did this very quickly and there are several options with the filter to work the image but it can be done pretty easy and i am sure there are many other techniques to do this also and maybe even some raw converters
  13. Okay real quick test don't want to deviate to much from Doug's thread but this is intersting watch this. standard corportae portrait here with the Leica 180 f2 at shooting aperture at F8 . Watch the tie. Full shot<div>00HCbD-31024084.jpg.f333f41e632ba7199cd09a733ec4aaf1.jpg</div>
  14. I think that maybe very true Doug , I have most of my moire issues with the 100 apo and the 180 F2 which both are really outstnading with sharpness. I noticed this on one shot were my critical focus hit a guys tie and bam, I had moire there but the next frame he moved slightly and it was still very sharp but not critical and it was not there. So i agree it is these very sharp lenses at a critical focusing point were this occurs. Let's see if i can find it and show you what i mean
  15. Andy you can only use the anti-alaising off when shooting jpegs and not available when shooting raw. i have found moire in some circumstances shooting the DMR and actually without the AA filter i have been pleasantly surprised that i did not have more moire in my images but if you have C1 it comes with a plug in for moire to be used in Photoshop called Demorize, that really does a outsatnding job of correcting it and pretty painless. now i will let Doug answer the bird moire but I would expect on some birds he may get some , just depends on the pattern. i have shot tweed suits and not got any but some shirts or ties I have. So it just depends .

Doug great shots as usual and i see the great use of the 280 F4 no question one of my sweethearts in my lineup. Doug i just have to look at the viewfinder of a SL, i hear you talk of this often and i love the R9 viewfinder but the SL must be outstanding. BTW i get about 250 to 300 shots if I am just going along but if I just have it on all the time i get maybe about 6 hours. Extra batteries are needed
