    Five Springs

          10

What water photos? Oh, you mean I should look at and possibly edit them?! Other than a couple car shots so I could take a print to the owner of the wrecking yard I haven't done much of anything. Ajo might be in the works again....

  1. My neighbor had company the other day and they asked "what's she doing with all the junk?" To which my neighbor replied, "she's building herself a car, one part at a time!" Yet another door might be pushing it.

  2. Ya, that corner of sky is distracting, have you considered cropping the image to eliminate the upper part? Would the waterfall feel "too cramped" without the height of the stone?! Just thinking of alternatives, your intuition is always spot on. I love that the three of us have such fun adventures.

This turned out fabulous! I want to go back and camp there someday, bears or no bears. This would look great in B&W too. I'm so glad we get to share these adventures.

  3. I understand totally about meeting and becoming best friends with folks you've met here on PN, Shawn Shahan, Kim Barton and I have become the best of friends and share many an outing. I've also met a few other people who I really have enjoyed. Now I just know I have to go to Death Valley, maybe in the winter....

  4. I've been rambling through your "places" folders to see where I might like to go on my next "walk-about" and this image has me convinced I need to see Death Valley and surrounds. These magical moments are what life is about for me, doesn't even matter if I don't photograph it, it's just BEING THERE to experience the solitude and beauty. Have you ever been to Organ Pipe Cactus Nat. Mon.? There's a small primitive campground there (you have to register at the visitor's center) and the surrounding area is wonderful. A short hike from the camping area is an abandoned stone house and some corrals, neat place. Keep posting so I can travel through your imagery.

What draws me to this image is all the lovely warm earth tones and the graphic lines of the tree. A little creative dodging and burning would help bring out the individual elements. Nice work Hamid.

  5. This image is "right up my alley", so to speak. I always appreciate your range of tones and composition in your B&W work, Leo. This Spring my Sis and I spent a month roaming the Southwest, loved Organ Pipe Cactus NM.

  6. And you my friend, I hope, are still going "with the flow" around the world. Your dance images have always been some of my favorites that you post and this one is outstanding. I love the motion and "flow" and the storytelling quality. I took a peek at your "Girls" post too, now that's a lovely camel if I ever saw one....

  7. This has a slight HDR look to it and now I'm itching to go back to Chaco and shoot some of the ruins in HDR. The last time I was there I hadn't started experimenting with HDR and I think for graphic detail that might be the solution to my dilemna of not getting the dramatic images from there that I hope for....and yes the lighting and sky can certainly add to the composition as it does here. You do a nice job of composing these ruins, it's hard to know what to include in a composition with so much going on in this area. I too love the desert and these remote sites.
  8. I've been taking a journey through some of your folders to places I've been and want to return. I've been to Chaco many times but am always disappointed in the images I make there....I'm waiting for that magic. I like how you've composed this shot with the stairstep diagonal lines of the stones and the layering of the walls. Nice subtle color too.

You and Chris have both done this composition justice, these are my favorite kind of places to go....the desert and old abandoned homesites. The use of the lone tree and it's shadow add so much drama and interest to the image. Nice tonal range, Ansel would be proud.
  9. This turned out so beautiful! These are Pyror Mountain Mustangs, they're known for their more "pure" mustang bloodlines and many of them are this lovely Grulla color. This trio are a mare and two of her offspring. It was fun, Kim, watching them play in the puddle after they'd gotten their drink. The Sepia tone is perfect for this image.

This one tells many stories open to our individual interruptations. A slice of life that's hard to view yet fascinating. Is he looking at the woman or what she is offering....what must be going through his mind....
