    Passage

          24

Pnina ידידה חדשה this is exactly the kind of B & W documentary photograph that I like best / wish / have attempted to take. and it clearly documents H C-B's maxim about having to wait for the moment. כנראה מהקומנטריות ,הסיפור המסובח לא מיד או מאה אחוז ברור לכולם ,אבל אולי אני טועה

what interests me the most, in addition to the technical qualities that contribute to the visual text of this image, is how specific uses of cloth / clothing and "bodily discipline" tell the story of "passages." The academic essay that I am presently trying to finish writing is on precisely this theme, though it is about people from a certain part of India living now in the U.S. Congratulations, this is worthy of the very very best "street" work. of course, you are correct! I think I was happy to get a good range of light and shadow and not thinking about where the eye should go. this is a very helpful comment.
  1. that this excellent photo does indeed speak eloquently about "the situation", indeed from the point of view of "the other." He is not necessarily reading about Obama's speech, and that, if true, is a major point. Leaders come and go, and they can express or encourage or even prevent great hopes from being realized. The people remain.

Because, honestly, it took me a moment to figure out what I was looking at! As in, how could a skier be in the sky? SO this is a great photo for making people have to really look and think. Unless, of course, everyone else in the world immediately realizes it!

1970. Nikkormat w/50 mm Nikkor. Metering all guesswork. Probably why

it turned out well, I think, with only the two boys well-lit.

i love this kind of portrait, esp. in B & W. the D70s is wonderful, but i gave mine to my daughter a few months ago. that little panasonic you also use has Leica-licensed lens, I think, so should also give consistently great results. Best wishes.

Pierre, merci. Thankfully I have this as a film negative. I will scan many more this summer, as I have vacances for 8 weeks. It was shot with the Leica R8 and a 35 lens. No longer possess the camera or an R lenses. But still using film with M7 and Rolleiflex, and will continue to do so!
