  1. AWESOME!  I know, I know... the art critics in the crowd scoff at cute animals, but I say screw them - this picture brings so much joy to anyone who looks at it that I think it serves a higher purpose:)  Not to mention, its an excellent shot and I think stands up very, very well as an image in and of itself.  I bet the print is far more impressive than what the monitor can show, great job.

  2. Really impressed with how strong the composition is - I see (and have...) lots of "hey, neat old truck!" pictures, but this one really works, really goes a step further - even the power lines (which are generally a ruthless spoiler of otherwise good pictures) act to draw the eye into the image and along with the clouds add a sense of movement to the image.  Good eye, thanks for sharing.

  3. It is one of the most photogenic aeroplanes ever, is it not?  A real thing of beauty, and such nice, natural colours in this shot.  When I was faced with photographing one, I found I couldn't find the shot I wanted - it just seems that no matter what I did it did not do it justice, but I think it has to do with the sense of motion evoked by this machine.  Even when its standing still, it looks like its conquering the airways:)

The example I had the chance to shoot was red, but I really like the other set of classic Staggerwing colours on this one!

This is a lovely capture, and I wish I could see the actual print - I am sure the computer monitor doesn't do it justice on a number of levels!  Great work.

I wonder if you used movements to achieve this peculiar (although very effective in my opinion) plane of focus?

This would be a much less mundane site if there were more images like this one, thanks for sharing it!

Dan, how come I can pick out your photos without looking at the name? They just have a "look" about them that draws the eye!:) Love it, the compression is so effective here, and the composition is top notch. Pleasure as always!

Very effective composition! Well done - this is one of those images where the subject matter becomes secondary due to the artistic vision of the photographer - it just works as a piece of visual art, and I think that is a big accomplishment! Kudos!
  4. The face and sneakers already form a triangle. All the other stuff is just digital masturbaton that amounts to making an image selectively darker and blowing some of the parts of it (like the sneakers and the exposed skin above the ankle)into some neon crayon radioactive nightmare... Though the tighter crop seems to work - then again the simulated overmat does what overmats do - this is no exception.

What makes a photo have urban feel? This is a decent pixelograph of a pretty girl in an admireable attempt at an original setting.

But an urban feel? I get the "feel" that a nice girl was dragged out of a suburban home on a saturday morning, right after a nice breakfast while mom and dad went shopping or perhaps golfing. Or perhaps it was dad himself - if he is a young, hip dad - who wielded the photocomputer. What you could have done behind the "camera" is gone to an urban centre, and captured something uniquely "urban". I have ruins like that a half hour from my home - they are the remnants of a barn. In a field. Not urban just because its broken. To get feel, you need context and suggestions of what you are driving at - even if its done through technique or choice of media. Then again, what do I know, I don't even have photoshop... :)

  5. Wonder how many engines, trannies, etc, went into that million miles... I wonder when GM gets it through their heads that xenophobic ranting is not a marketing stratery (at least not outside the Bible Belt).... Still, its one of those things - you see one, you will definitely never see it again, you better take a photo.

Lovely shot of a beautiful bike. At first I thought "damn, it would be nice if he took that bag off the tank", but as I looked at it more, I think this way its a different shot, with a real "on the road" feel, not like some brochure. Although, it would be a great brochure! :)

Second that, there is nothing wrong with this photo, it certainly is NOT bland. it has a calm and an understated elegance to it, and the colours are actually very nicely saturated in a counter to the softer sky. I like it a lot, it cought my eye before I even read the caption. We are our worst critics, aren't we?

I go every year, this year - work prevented me from going (my friends went without me...) grrrrr! I sure missed it - glad I get to live vicariously through your photos.

People should be screened for colour blindness and at least a trace residue of taste before being allowed to play with photochop... I figured something that hurt my eyes so badly in just a passing glance deserved a comment.

Nice shot - I really enjyed this picture, though I have to admit this is one of my favorite planes of its kind :) So even though I may be a little biased, it brought a big smile to my face - and it is a well executed photograph as well.
  6. I would love to know more - is this part of a movie set? Is it a full size replica? very interesting and a great shot too. One thing - the round wingtips suggest that this would be an F, not an Emil, although its probably a hybrid of some sort given that the cowling and spinner do not seem to be "compatible" with the wing type. Another telling feature would be the external bracing of the tail, present on the Emil, absent from the F. Of course, this being a movie prop, it may not even be a real airplane - that's why I am so interested in learning more about this photo!
