  1. <p>John, enjoyed your post. I was looking at the pictures my wife selected for display and the Koni Rapid shots were prevalent which is amazing because it is not used very much due its poundage. The contrast and sharpness of the Koni lens is impressive.<br> Thanks for your post.</p>
  2. <p>I keep looking up. Handy cell phone shot.</p><div></div>
  3. Dpreview 40D test with noise performance information, http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos40d/18 Start of review http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos40d
  4. Melissa, I tried to do the same with a 2Ti but my 50mm F1.8 is loaned out so I set the kit lens to 50mm and hand held it in ambient light using autofocus, manual focus, iso 100 to 2500 and no stabilization. The aperture on the kit lens was F5.6 @50mm so the depth of field would be more than yours by quite a bit but F2.8 should still have enough to get from nose to eye. The test shots were all sharp (some camera jiggle at iso 100 with a .5 sec exposure) but the autofocus point had to be right on target or it was fuzzy. As Phil and Andrew suggest a focus test may tell you what is happening. Also hard to understand why you have lots of noise at moderate iso (ie > 100). The 40 D should be very good up to iso 1000. Have you changed the autofocus method lately?
  5. The date looks like counting by two's. While my groceries were being bought I walked around the area on a dull overcast day looking for something presentable. No such luck. So here is a slice of what the day looked like. Anybody else shoot while shopping? Post a few with the long side no more than 700 pixels.<div></div>
  6. PS Screen blowup using Win7 control + method. Maybe those missing the right side have screen large. Can be reduced by control -
  7. <p>Gene, Firefox 32.0.3 image size ok at small size. Blow up to see details loses the right side of the view ?? Highlights seem tad too high but probably would never notice if just looking at image. Like your posts. My ancient Photomic FTN seems to have a Contax ancestry.<br> Keep on truckin'</p> <p>Randyc</p>
  8. If you could get the same dynamic range that the eye has, how would you view it? Reflected light from a normal print does not have the range so to reproduce the picture would an LED or something have to be used?
  9. This was in the grass and seemed to be a leaf but on closer inspection is a fungus of some sort. Nex 3 1/100 sec; f/5.6; ISO 400<div></div>
  10. This one is for Paul DeLey. Don't know what it is but it was available. Nex 3 1/250 sec; f/9; ISO 200<div></div>
  11. <p>Howard, the tones in the B&W landscape are amazing. I also enjoyed the color montage. A friend who visited a small town in northern England said it was fairly cool most of the time. He did not take enough winter garb so his visit to the British open became an endurance challenge.<br> The Nex 3 has a temperature filter so I set it to 5500K and tested it on this leaf. No changes in post except to adjust exposure. Nex 3 1/160 sec; f/7.1; ISO 200 focal length 55mm.</p><div></div>
  12. Paul, sometimes I find a ball that someone had the audacity to not use my initials when marking it (8o). The lenses of the skipper fly make a nice texture. The desert scene is very stark don't think I'd be happy there.
  13. I have used dental floss on some camera knobs to pull out dirt and residue but it depends on getting the floss under the knob. Good luck.
  14. Howard must be junketing somewhere and I have a few pictures so I'll start the thread. We are still in the process of getting the basement waterproofed and had to move out the keepsakes saved over the years (ugh). There was a bright moment when I found a series VII to 49mm adapter that mounted the curvatar to the Nex3. I enjoy the wide angle shots if I can keep my toes and shadow out of the picture. All images were made with the Nex 3 in auto program and were cropped slightly to remove the wasted space.<div></div>
  15. <p>Couldn't resist playing with the picture so I didn't look at the other folks pictures until I had finished. The steps used were;<br> 1. Cropped out some of the foreground.<br> 2. Adjusted contrast and sharpened slightly.<br> 3. Slightly increased vibrance.<br> 4. Adjusted shadows and highlights.<br> It looks similar to several other peoples work but I did not copy!</p><div></div>
  16. On a more upbeat note, the good weather is drawing the Harleys out of the garage.<div></div>
  17. <p>We just got back from a short out of town trip so I am late this week. The hotel we stayed in had an atrium where breakfast and supper were served. In the off hours it had a moody lonely appearance which prompted these two shots.</p><div></div>
