1.
My 200Mbs broadband connection has no problems quickly loading sites WITH THE EXCEPTION of photo.net which is painfully slow. Is there an explanation ?

Malcolm Denton.

 2.
The following UK company used to advertise Nikon scanner repair on its website - worth an enquiring e-mail perhaps.
technicians@fixationuk.com

 3.
I seem to have resolved my problem.
Having tried a variety of suggestions including some ideas from Ed Hamrick, and even downloading earlier versions of Vuescan,I followed some advice on Photo Net about letting the scanner warm up,in my case, due to other commitments, I let it warm up for two hours.

Then,as if by magic, it worked perfectly.

Now,I'll never know whether the machine, like me in the morning, needs to come round slowly,or whether it was simply that I hadn't used it for a few months, but whatever it was I seem to have woken it up. I've had it for about sixteen years,so it's possible its bones, like mine, are starting to creak.

From now on I'll be making a point of running it every day,as there does not appear to be anyone who services these excellent machines.

 4.
Mendel...
Having tried a variety of suggestions including some ideas from Ed Hamrick, and even downloading earlier versions of Vuescan,I read your response of June 27 again -'grasping at straws'.
This time I followed your advice about letting the scanner warm up,the only difference being that, due to other commitments, I let it warm up for two hours.
Then,as if by magic, it worked perfectly.
Now,I'll never know whether the machine, like me in the morning, needs to come round slowly,or whether it was simply that I hadn't used it for a few months, but whatever it was I seem to have woken it up. 5.
Mendel....
Thanks for the response. I've reset Vuescan to defaults, but now interestingly the scans are not orange but white !
Unfortunately the OEM software will not run on Mavericks,so I'm having to use Vuescan.
I hadn't used the scanner for a month or two,and this gap coincided with an update to Mavericks (10.9.3) AND an update to Vuescan. Like you grasping at straws I've asked Ed Hamrick if there is the possibility that this double whammy could be causing a problem. Reverting to earlier versions of Vuescan gave the same problem,so if there is a software clash it would be on the Mavericks end.
I live in hope.

Malcolm.

 6.
Antonio
I can't be absolutely sure, but I think I've successfully used the scanner since the Mac went up to 10.9.3 which was the last upgrade.

 7.
Mendel
I was trying to scan some Fuji and Kodak slides.
Malcolm.

 8.
Trying to scan tonight with the latest version of Vuescan on Mac OS 10.9.3,but all I get as an image is a clear orange screen

The scanner initialises as normal, and the preview has all the whirs and whees associated with the scanner, but no image produced.
