I'd like to hang with Taylor. I like "club".
I also need some ideas for a lens and poses at an autopsy. Should I get the Bushnell L glass scope? My Canon Bubblejet holds 6 cartridges what about an AR-15

I looked long and hard at a 30D and 20D, a few hours in the shop shooting under as many variered conditions as I could find. The only significant feature I gave up by buying the 20D was the "big screen" LCD. Nice for a farsighted guy.
Spot metering and newly designated tourist settings didnt seem worth the $360.00 over the 20D. Nearly $1600.00 more for a 5D nah!
When one of you 5D shooters tells me that your client said "Geeee the images are awesome you must be shooting with a 5D" then I'll consider overlooking the price disparity.

Marc is climbing the right tree. It seems that within this forum the technical issues discussed have reached a level of maximum redundance. Still this is the place for that who gives a crap whether the 24-70mm f0.50 krytonite element lens is better for nudes or nose hairs, ho-hum.
More than anything, ANYTHING I continually want the content of my images to improve, I want to be opened to ways of making the most meaningful shots more often. I know your suposed to have backups. I'll know I am getting good when I can shoot a wedding in a gym and have it look like a Mary Ball shoot of a Kennedy wedding.
By now there has to be pictures hanging in some art galleries that were shot in medium jpeg. RAW vs. Jpeg is a choice if you can knock it out better on one that the other thats where you should be. The amount of business you do will eventually be your barometer.
Worry more about aweome shots rather than the temperature and humidity control system in your gear bag.

Bob I'm glad the information was useful. I never had any particular contempt for Lexar or any major CF card amanufacturer. BUT this time it was a Lexar card that almost did me in.
The film lab guy had his IT/PC guru geek in and it took nearly 7 hours and 6 different software products to recover all the images.
The hell of this could have been a loss of those images. I was shooting at my best level so far after moving up to a 20D.
Well its over I still got paid and I am looking forwarf to a new and improved card from Lexar.

Lexar seemed like a high quality manufacturer. I just bought a Lexar 133x a few weeks back. It's okay so far.
Something to keep an eye on.
Thanks Emily

I was surprised to see others having the same concerns as me in my previous
posts.

ANNE
DONT EVER USE THAT CARD AGAIN. Consider it a gonner its not worth the price of the card to have it eat your images.
If its a Lexar check the website and find out about a replacement
you will only have a few more chances if you are lucky.

What I know now is that the 80X category was a dog (go to lexar.com)and there is a link to Canon if you are interested. Certain serial numbers are eligible for exchange for versions with new firmware.
On Your 20D err o2 indicates a suspect card.
The Hindu wedding was the most radical cultural departure I have ever been on. Meaning no offense in any way it was a colorful and very family oriented day. It may be the closest I ever get to a Nation Geographic assignment.
I would love to post shots right now but I am tired. I must say that little switch up to a 20D that knows how or has the power to focus has really jacked up my confidence.
Mr. Schilling, although I never assist you directly with your onsite portrait stuff I must say that observing at weddings and looking at your work in the Forum has given me an awesome foundation. Thanks tons, I still think some of your tilt shots are a little hinckey but they havent hindered what I have learned.
It is helpful to be in the same environment as a pro doing right and wrong and thing learning why.
Huh . . . I'M rambling? Hindu wedding in another post soon.

Last Saturday I was shooting an east Indian (Hindu) first day wedding
ceremony. Bride and groom families welcoming each other.
Toward the end of the evening my 20D said I had 38 exposures left. Take a
shot . . . erro2. Couldn't shoot anymore. But all images were on the Lexar
Professional 80X card.
I tried to copy these to the hard drive and I got a not responding warning
everytime from my PC. I tried to use ther recovery software butr to no avail.
The card would read in the camera but not in the computer.
My custom lab recovered the images after 5 or 6 hours and multiple attempts
with various software.
You can snap a flash in half, drop a lens, hell just grab a backup but when
the card goes like Delanza and Collen said its like opening a film back at
12 noon. 10 xtra cards would have done nothing to save the 218 images that
were held hostage by my glitched out card.
If the camera locks up you miss some shots but the card will pound sand in the
past present and future.

Cool answers, as for vehicles-important yes but let's assume we are at the wedding. I will have a fresh post around 10:30pm Central Daylight Hayseed time.

Of all the equipment wedding photographers carry what do YOU consider to be
the piece of equipment that could cause the worst problems if it failed.
Name the piece of equipment only, spare any tech talk and opion for now and
another post will follow for discussion.

Dang!
That would be like you to call me on that Kari. AND rightly so! You have either memorized that book or you are super laser focused.
Thanks for the easy out. Does this process appear in that workbook or was that info given on the side?
Thanks for the info too.

While I have conquered many battles in CS2 over the past several months I
reamined daunted and frustrated by trying to setup an action to batch RAW file
into JPEGS.
It never seems what others do with such carefree abandon in PS or CS2 happens
for me. MMMMmmmm whine over. I would appreciate some help on setting up the
conversion process.
I am really digging shooting in RAW mode, now this.

The more you shoot and the more you shoot in varied situations is the best teacher. The manual is a nice resource for nomenclature and explanation of function. Once familiar with all that the best thing to do is shoot a lot.
When I shoot in various configurations I dont visualize how the circuitry was created, and replay the physical manufacturing process of the processors and the lens grinding operation. And how they created and applied the software. I am satisfied with knowing why the features are there and how they will benefit me when my eye is in the viewfinder. I don't need to know how to build a 5D. I guess my toilet training was not so severe that I ever had to dwell on how they built the vacuum furnaces that make the chip in my 20D. I prefer to wow people with a great image.
I stand with Al on this. 36 years ago I was always working with my Honeywell (talk about old)Pentax Spotmatic. I stopped using the meter because I felt it would save wear and tear on the meter switch if I exposed by feel plus the challenge of nail the exposure on my own.
Funny thing, over the years the meter quit. A few months ago I took the camera out of my bottom dresser drawer to discover that the meter once again works.

Ahhh but now I do know where to go for my 8 X 180's

I have sent the exact same set of images to Kodak and to Dale. Kodak got some rirght that dale didn't-Dale nailed some that kodak didn't and the in between was that Kodak looked a little better.

"Selective Color > Red > slide the Cyan to the right and add a touch of yellow will fix that in 2 seconds."
Anne the above is an awesome skintone fix. I sort of stumbled onto that on my own. I am encouraged to see Marc mentioning it.

I find it is helpful not to be in a hurry to bring your finger off the shutter button. I press and hold for a few fractions of a second. A follow through of sorts.

Delanza, I think the white label looks good. Light Scribe is cool if you like that lacklustre monochromatic look. There is a plasticstic film label available (white)that is suposed to minimize DVD label glitches. Verbatim has DVD's that look like movie reels and those look sharp in the DVD folio. Verbatim is a pretty high standard medium too
What I have heard from someone who edits a lot of video on DVDs is that the DVD is way more susceptible to label problems than a CD. I have many labeled DVDs and no problems so far.<div></div>

With your 20D and a 550EX you can easily overexpose from the balcony to the alter at +3 or 1/1 at 400 ISO and f4.5 but usually its no flash in church. In a reception facility you hafe plenty of flash to light things up even if bouncing.
Try this, in manual mode, set your camera up at f4.5 and set your 550 on manual 1/1, your shutter speed can be around 40 or 50. Go outside with this at night (dark) and shoot at various things and check your exposures. You have more power there than you think. Try reducing shutter speeds and see what you get.
