Interesting coincidence, by the way:

"...weddings as a guest... gotten better photos with my pentax s40 than the professional paid photographer..."
Way to go! Let's look at your profile:
KATRINA COUCH... member since May 27, 2006. Two posts so far, including "Response to What to do with a horse?"
A horse? I'm more and more interested in your advice!
"...I don't feel that "no" is a good answer, and I don't believe it will help anyone to be so negative..."
No was the correct answer. You should read "The tyranny of being positive".

To illustrate my point, see this video by an editor who uses Macs:

"...Will I be able to get good shots?.."
No.

I was thinking in terms of the likelihood of failure. Given similar QC procedures, a card assembled in Taiwan is probably as likely to fail as a card assembled in Japan.
Speaking of the variance between similar groups. There's more variance in body height within a large group of women, then between similarly large groups of men and women. Same with two factories of the same company.

Statistically speaking and given the identical QC procrdures, variation within "made in X" is likely to be greater than variation between "made in X" and "made in Y"

Buy online and - using the savings compared to Oz prices - buy a Mac warranty.

"...have to go browse for them each time..."
Actually, DPP remembers the location of your style files next time you click 'browse'

I like it a lot. Particularly the Nostalgia style.
Best part it's working with my 20D files and DPP 2.1! Despite the fact Canon has only listed 1dsmk2, 5D and 30D on the "download to software" list.
Well done Canon.

I've got the EW-60C and it DOES turn. Only more expensive lenses with "internal focusing" don't turn the hood. 18-55 ain't one of them.
No vegnetting whatsoever with the dedicated Canon hood.

Hmmm... PN Hero, 2096 posts since Feb 1999 and you're asking THIS?
Troll!

I had the error 99 twice on my 20d. Both times fixed by rubbing the contacts with a pencil eraser.

I heard some guy printed 3000 by 4000 meters, looks virtually noiseless from the International Space Station

I find iso 100 @ 300mm rather outlandish

old news...over a couple of years now. The current Velvia 100 is just as good

"... shooting manual scares the heck out of me..."
With flash, shooting manual is akin to automatic. In low light/inside you set your exposure (eg 1/60, f8) and the then shoot, the cemera does the rest AUTOMATICALLY, so it's not really "manual" so to speak. Don't forget to dial up to +1 FEC or images will be dark.
-
What Dam said. Sometimes you don't have a choice but crop/edit a JPG. Save it as a TIF then - no loss!
-
Inside/low light: Manual (e.g 1/60sec, f8); Plus+2/3 FEC
Outside/daylight: AV; Minus-2/3 FEC

"...It is discouraging, and rude..."
Katrina aka June - who cares what YOU think? You're wrong on all counts.
Time to set up a new identity, hey?
