rule of thumb is, it takes as long to write to card as it does to take the shot. so a 1/200th of a second shot will take 1/200 th of a second and a 20 minute shot will take 20 minutes to write to card.my beliefe is it is the noise reduction filter working. you can also do another 20 min shot with the lens cap on and combine the two in photoshop to reduce noise..

I dont know about those two lenses but im sure they are fine with the 430EX I would be more concerned with fringing and distortion..
I have the Sigma 10-20 and its an excellent lens for the $$, works great on my 30D and use it all the time.
also, look for a used canon 17-40L, brand new theyre under $600.00 so a used one wouldnt be more than $500.00 I had mine and loved it but had to sell it and my 70-200 f4 L.. :( any how, there are some great lenses out there.. Sigmas are my go to lens when i want to save some money. Check out their line up!

how much $ are you willing to spend? there are alot of great lenses and alot of really expensive ones too. i think canons 70-200 f4 L is outstanding and in the $500.00 range. Also, they have a 75-300MM IS i believe, then there are their flgship lenses, the 70-200 f2.8 L with IS but its about $1400.00 and the 24-70 f2.8 L non IS is great. Then there is the 28-105 f4 IS (i think its 28-105..lol) over $1000.00 but another awesome lens.. then there are a whole bunch of great 3rd party lenses by tamron and sigma and tokina.. IMHO sigma are best. Have a look at their 80-400 OS (optical stabelizer) lens and they have a new OS lens out but its a short zoom.. cant remember the size though. go to somewhere like the B&H page, find a lens in your price range that you might like, come back here and ask about it or look on some of the review sites.

sounds like sensor dust to me... have you cleaned the sensor yet? they come outof the factory already dirty alot of times, dont worry, canon doesnt charge extra for the dirt though. Get it cleaned then try it again.
Another note, does this also happen on other bright colors? at what aperture are you shooting?
-
i dont get what you mean? i dont have any problem with my 30D and ball head. where are you attaching the ball head to the camera? on the bottom...right? can you post a photo?
-
Sigmas sometimes have a problem where the lens isnt compatible with the canon bodies, they need to be re-chipped by sigma, usually a freebie.. call Sigma and talk to them about it.

well consiering the 17-85mm lens is like $400.00, the grip is almost $200.00 id say he's either out to rob or doesnt care and wants to unload stuff he cant use, quickly. the 5 D will not take EF-S lenses..
Its your call.. if you trust him go for it.. use a Credit card through something like pay pal, do not use an escrow acct or Western union or money transfer service. make sure you use a pay plan that is guaranteed to back you up incase this goes sour.. if the guy says he only takes a M/O or check or cash or western union or escrow servic, decline to do business with him and run away!

well Id say, if you arent happy now, you wont be later, id also say that if you have second thoughts, get it back to the store.... regretts, ya know?

That card is fine, I use a 30D and will buy any card thats on sale and i really dont see any difference in speed or what ever.. dont worry about it..(they are prolly all the same, just some have a fancy sticker on them) 20D, great Camera.. the lens you bought, is it the IS? I have that lens, its not as bad as folks will say, just figure out where it works best, I believe mine is sharpest at about f5 to f8 or so.
-
thinking about it now, if you are using a light box or light tent, any lens you have that is sharp is going to work well.
-
I use my 100MM macro as its tack sharp and it gets great results. I recently got hold of a 50MM sigma macro to use as the 100 mm was a bit too long. I use a light box for my small product shots too, if that helps!

if its only for this purpose, do you really need to spend over a $1000.00 on a camera? you can get a really advanced P&S with Image Stabelized lens for less. But if you will be shooting other subjects, then a DSLR would be nice. just throwing that out there.

hey it happens to all companies... you know how people are, if they pay their hard earned $$$ for something, they expect the best... and there is nothing wrong with that. I deal almost exclusivly with B&H and have had nothing but good experience with them but I do have to say, sometimes their packaging does make me wonder..lol But i have purchased many items and all were in perfect shape. If you do recieve an item that was beat up, DO NOT contact UPS or FED EX... refuse the shipment and call B&H immeadietly.. you think waiting for a refund from B&H took long? lol..
-
lol.. are you sure it was actually in B&W mode? sometimes i forget to accept the change and it doesnt work. Try it again because it should shoot and download in B&W mode!
-
could it be the iso 200 AND the f5.6? try f 11 or so? is ti still doing it?

Professional p&S? never heard of one yet. Canon came close with the pro1 but decided to drop it in favor of the IS line. I cant stand NOT having a view finder, I laugh when i see people walking around, hold the camera in two hands, arms outstretched like frankenstien..lol too funny. Doesnt Canon make a new, 10 MP P&S with a VF and LCD? G7 or something?

Try compensating + 1/2 stop or even 1 full stop, shoot raw, make sure your focus is dead on and tone down the exposure a bit in Post Processing. Also, do you notice the noise before you crop? or is it more noticable after cropping? Cropping seems to make it more noticable so when ever possible, try to frame your shots so you dont have to crop it.

yeah, it sounds as if it need to go to canon...are you using a canon battery?
-
POTN Photography On The Net.. whole site deicated to canon owned by canon users, staffed by canon users and full of canon users..
Smugmug.com, I use em for my photos, they do a great job.. you gotta buy the pro level though if you want to be serious about this.
Heres a code to use to save $$$ off the price..enter X87zHwslrtaXc in the "referred by" field and save $5.00 on a years subscription.

im not sure but does the on board flash fire the optical slave? does the 430 even have an optical slave in it? I know this isnt a great help but I thought id ask.
-
well I have both the 30D and the Elan 7 and everything will work but im not sure on the 380... (because i have never delt with that flash before) I use my 28-135IS as a walk around and its fine... I also love my 17-40L as a walk around too though..lol (just wish it was a tad longer) the 17-40 L is topps for Landscapes...I cant rave about it enough! The 17-85 is a great range too! I think youll be fine with the 28-105, just wait till you get the camera and try it and see if you like it.
good luck!
-
and dont forget to figure in the 5 cents refund cost..lol
Now im thirsty.....thanks!
-
im looking into the 17-55 and the dust thing does scare me abit, its a pretty expensive lens to buy and if its got problems, even small ones like being a vaccume, Im thinking the 24-70 is better. (wish theyd make a 24-70L f2.8 IS)
-
I love my 17-40...it rocks. one of my most used lenses!
