  1. I admire your efforts to transpose photo reality to a more painterly world. Although this one doesn't quite make the transition that your very best pictures achieve it is still a very fine attempt with some beautiful work. The dark sections work pretty well though head of the rear gondolier gets lost in the shadows.
  2. I think you originally posted this image (or at least part of it since this is a composite) on the critique forum. It works much better as a component of this picture which has a more poetic quality.

    Metal, wood

Strong, natural abstract with very good color, interior forms and detail. Excellent, Franz.

    Softly now!

This picture is absolute poetry. You got the focus here just right which allows the image to sing. If there was any vignetting on your part, it is subtle and supportive.

    Books

I always like a view behind the scene at the photographer's interests which tell us so much about what he or she values and where he/she is coming from.
  6. After reading your title, the irony fairly drips. The photo exists in parallel worlds, one a world of forms and composition, the other more contemplative, revealing your personal take on the pronouncements of history and the next new thing.

    CHATEAUX

Daniel, all your photos show your trademark style and are easily picked out from the crowd. There is a slight softening of the hard edges of the contemporary world which I think brings things more in line with how you would like them to be. I suspect you are a mixture of the poet and the romantic very much at odds with the values and the rash and often unforgiving character of modern life. Your photos seem the outpouring of a courtly soul who has somehow gotten "unstuck in time" (if I can borrow a phrase from Kurt Vonnegut.)
  8. Very nice shot. Timeless. If you told me this photo was taken 150 years ago I would readily believe you.

    Curious!

What patience you have. I like this better than the color version, it's somehow a bit cleaner.

    tires...

Strong shot. Great composition, color and tones. The tread patterns on the tires add a lot to this photo.
  11. This just about catches the essence of The Hero of the Revolution who refuses to die, a Lenin of our times.

    Souvenir of Japan

    OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
  13. So this is what was inside that section of brain that you showed us, your own world where realities overlap and create a multi dimensional picture that obeys its own set of rules.
  14. The red and white of the accordion fence plays very well against the mottles surface of the concrete, doesn't it?

    alien invasion

They do give that impression, don't they. They've already got the beaches, the suburbs are next.
  16. A new race of humanoids sees the dawn. Very well done.

    Ceiling

Wonderful graphic design. It looks Indian, perhaps one of the northwest tribes.
  18. Jack McRitchie

A sea of wheat. If only van Gogh could have painted this. Nice work as always, Herman.
  19. Very much your style. The photo seems to have weathered along with the abandoned railroad cars.

    CHAGALL'S STUDIO

Is this really his studio, Daniel? It certainly looks like a place from an earlier time, filled with intriguing items accumulated over the years which give the room a distinctive and highly personal atmosphere. Your treatment is appropriate in giving the photo itself a patina that matches that of the room.

    Radar

This is a strong photo with the animal alert for the slightest movement or sound. Beautifully caught.

    FlamesOfHell.jpg

You allow us a quick peek inside your mind. Sure is a lot going on in there. The flames are figurative and do not burn.

    Landed!

How neatly the butterfly aligns with the flower. Nature arranges itself spectacularly for you.
  24. I like this picture for its stark approach and the way you have composed it.
