  1. Thanks for your responses. I have had a look at the specs for the 2 lenses on the Canon website (should've done this in the first instance) and from the specs alone, it looks like the 200mm is the way to go. I have not read any negative responses from owners of this lens in this forum.

I'm surprised the 200mm is relatively cheap in comparison to other L series lenses...must be another hidden gem like the 100mm macro.

    Thanks.

  2. I am seeking to buy a mid-range Canon telephoto lens which will be

my longest focal length lens. I currently already have the 100mm

macro so not necessarily seeking a macro lens. I will be using the

lens with a 1Ds (mk1), mainly for architectural close ups/abstracts.

    1. Which of these 2 are the best in terms of quality (most sharp,

    less CA/pincushion/distortion etc)?

    2. Which of the 2 will provide better quality with a 1.4 TC?

Keep in mind use will be with full-frame digital.

Thanks in advance for any comments/help.

  3. I have a lot of old negs that I want to use as part of my portfolio.

The problem is that many have a lot of dust/specks on them which I

can't get rid of and which appear once scanned.

What are people doing these days to remove dust from negs? I usually

use a blower but some dust particles still cannot be removed. If I

can find a method, this would save a lot of time in photoshop.

    Any ideas?

  4. Darren,

You are on the right track. I tried using the same resolution on both monitors but to no avail. On my laptop, I can only use the Fn/F8 combination which will allow me to switch from one monitor to the other but I still am unable to view the exact same screen on both monitors..that is, open an image in photoshop which can be viewed simultaneously on both screens. As you've indicated, the Éxtension'option has already been set up in Display to allow both monitors to function.

I'm sure it is something really simple that I've overlooked but it is frustrating trying to resolve this.

    Any further ideas?

  5. Just bought a CRT to connect to my laptop for dual viewing. This

setup works as I am able to use tools for the laptop and view images

    on the CRT.

Problem: I can't set up system so that I am viewing the same thing

on both monitors, which I want to do to compare sharpness, colour

etc. I have a 128mb graphics card so I'm certain this is not the

problem. The laptop is running at 1680 x 1050 resolution whilst the

CRT is 1600 x 1200. Please help..I've been trying to work this out

    for the last 2 days!

    BTW..the CRT is a Philips 19" 109B65. I had already sent back 2 more

expensive CRT's which were hopeless (Viewsonic P95f+B-don't even

think about it..text blurred at all resolution and is huge for

19"!). This one deals with both text and images reasonably

well..especially for the price, and is quite compact and

light...just in case anybody is searching for such a monitor.

    Please help.
