I have the 3.5 AI too, lovely lens and very cheap
"It's also a great lens to use reversed with the BR2 and gives a very flat field"
Richard, If i bought a br2a and used my 28mm any ideas what magnification I would get attached to a d80? I can't afford a macro lens at the moment. Would it work particularly well with my 28mm AI rather than my AF 20,35,50 lenses?

That's exactly how it should work. With non G AF lenses you must set them to the minimum aperture on the lens to get them to work.

Thanks for the replies
I think I will get rid of the zoom and replace it with
20mm f2.8
35mm f2.0
I already have the 50mm f1.4, in my head this seems like the perfect set up, unless Nikon release a 14 or 16mm DX prime then I want one of them too :)

I have always used an FE with either 24 or 28mm / 50mm / 135mm
Recently I got a d80 and to go with it picked up an 18-35mm thinking this
would replace the lenses I use most of the time on film in digital (the 28 and
the 50). While the quality of the lens is good I find I just don't really
like using it and much prefer the feel of the camera with the 50mm AF I just
picked up. I really don't like the variable aperture of the zoom or the fact
that 99% of the time I only use the zoom ring to make sure its back around
18mm!
So I was thinking of replacing the 18-35mm with 20mm and 28mm primes instead.
Is anyone else using a primes set up on dslrs? Am I just a bit zoomphobic?
Should I just get over it as everyone else seems to love zooms?

thanks for the tips :)

I'm about to dabble in IR photography, having just got some Kodak HIE. Do I
have to use the whole roll of film pretty quick like or can it stay in the
camera for a month or so while I take a pic here and there?
cheers

Just to clarify - I currently only use a 24mm and a 50mm on my FE 99.9% of the time, so I was thinking 18-35 on a dslr would, almost, give me that. I'd probably add a 50mm af for the other .1% of the time, not really a long lens shooter.
I do however fancy the 18mm end of the zoom for playing around with IR film landscapes.

Ignoring the 36-70mm bit of the 18-70 :) does anyone have experiance
of both of these lenses enough to compare them?
I don't have a dslr yet, but I spose I probably will. I was thinking
of buying the 18-35 now as I can use that on my film Nikon and later
on but I don't think I want to if the 18-70 I could get later as a
kit is significantly better?
cheers

Cork: O'Learys Camera World on Oliver Plunket Street stock some 120
I wouldn't expect a fantastic range though

I used video tape head cleaner on my Nikon since it was the only solvent I had laying around, worked fine
...usual disclaimers apply :)

only black Nikons are sexy, chrome ones just look cute

I had a C33 (makes the c330 seem light) for a few years and loved it, I really got on with it and the images are just so sharp from the 80mm lens. Build quality is really fantastic, indesctructable. In the end however I was tempted to something lighter and sold it to get a nikon.
The tlr lust still burned however so I gave the nikon to the Mrs and got a yashicamat 124, very late one, mint. Somehow I failed to get on with it. Images were very good still but I just didn't like the build....not helped by the fact I had light leak problems at one point. I also missed the ability of the Mamiya to focus closely. It was never to be and within 6 months I had sold my soul to Nikon again.
I still go misty eyed at the sight of Mamiyas.....however they are a pretty conspicuous camera, weigh a tonne, etc. One day I will get another I think.
If you have never had a mamiya then you may well get on with the yashica I spose

thanks guys, based on that I've loaded up some hp5 at 800 and I'll see how I get on

Can anyone give me a brief review of HP5+ vs Neopan (400)
characteristics please?
Having mostly used fp4+ I want to try something faster. I'd like
good contrast, and some grain so interested how these compare?
Also interested in how either of these respond to pushing 1 stop
Film is being processed commercially at the moment using Ilford
ID11, until I get sorted....
18-70mm (@20mm) vs 20mm AF
in Nikon

I already have the 18-70mm and was wondering how the 20mm AF compares to it at
20mm and an equivalent aperture?
I'd like something brighter than the 18-70 and the only other option in my head
is the 17-55 which is rather alot and a lot bigger
