John, your sense of humour is refreshing and mischievous.
It's not easy to make people laugh out aloud with a photo but I'm sure that's what's occurred here more than just a few times. I actually think your work is often quite 'commercial' and I mean that in the best possible and respectful way.
You are the master of the good caption by the way.
Regards,
Miles.

Thanks for the comments above. I posted this because I liked the chaotic nature of the picture with lots going on. I like to shoot a lot at 28mm on the street and get in close. These were children of the dock workers in Phan Thiet in southern Viet Nam. I have many pictures from this town because the locals seemed to enjoy having their pictures taken contrary to what I'd been led to believe about Viet Nam. It's certainly not the same in the North however. Thanks for looking,
Cheers, Miles.

Another excellent infrared image - so dreamy and so well composed.

A wonderful infrared photo that achieves exactly what this medium does best: ie. to convey an other worldly ethereal atmosphere. Very wide angle with plenty of foliage often proves successful; I'm just amazed you did this with a D70, I thought it was Kodak HIE film at first! Actually the blurry trees almost replicates the halation effect with HIE. Well done.

A really fine street photo. Speaks for itself as really good photos do.

Almost too good to be true. What a great composition with the dog and shoes on opposite sides of the legs. An extraordinary way to sleep, just the kind of amazing thing you see in Asia. The dog seems to be guarding over her and creates double the interest because this would still be good if it were only the old lady.
Marvelous,
Cheers, Miles.

Really wonderful, atmospheric photo full of movement and vitality. Quite cinematic.
Well done,

Clever concept beautifully executed. As I have said elsewhere your use of lighting is exceptional. The tones and sharpness compliment the composition and serene subject. A fine portrait of an artist by an artist.
Regards, Miles.

I'm really pleased to have discovered your work. I see you have been a member for only a short time but you have already uploaded an impressive portfolio.
Your use of lighting is exceptional and this photo is a great example. I think I can work out what's going on by looking at the shadows and at her eyes. It's a very creative concept and you are getting fine sharpness too.
It would be intersting if you shared some technical information for your audience here on photo.net such as the lighting, lens etc. I find it's an excelent forum for learning and exchanging ideas. For example I would be interestsd to know what focal length and aperture you used here.
I will certainly return to your portfolio regularly and look forward to seeing more first class photos.
Regards,
Miles.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. The lighting was actually quite simple - just a large softbox to the left.

Thanks for your comments; to Malcolm I tried to create that late fifties look and I'm pleased you picked up on that. I agree with V Hayes it would be nice to see some shoulder however I cropped it because I found her hair too distracting. Chris and D F you liked the composition; thankyou, I hope it works.
Cheers,
Miles.

Well composed portrait with very good use of photoshop. I see you shot it on an Olympus OM 10, I love those old Olympus cameras I still use an OM 2 sometimes.
Good work,

Good contrast with excellent tones. You've got the lighting just right and the pose of the beautiful, well groomed model with the diagonal composition is most effective. A beautiful photo.
Cheers,
Miles.

Sorry John, just noticed your comment on reflections and "screens." Too often I jump right in without reading what's above. Your accompanying description is most charming. Good photos and words make a great combination.
