  1. Leon is homeless and sleeps outside in the compound of Wat Koh Temple in Phnom Penh,

Cambodia. The monks tell me that he is 93, deaf and an ex soldier possibly with the Khymer

Rouge. I was fascinated by his intense persona still present at this very old age and surprised

by his blue eyes which may have something to do with cataracts I guess.

    Scallop Bay.

          3

A beach of scallop shells has been created by the women who remove the flesh from the

molluscs to make the local Vietnamese fish sauce. Women process hundreds of these a day

as soon as the catch arrives early in the morning.

    Ta Phrom Baby.

          1

As darkness falls a young baby is held by her mother at the gates of Ta Phrom temple, near

Angkor Wat, hoping that this will increase her chances of receiving for money from the

    departing tourists.

    Hammock Boy

          3

This boy lives alongside his four siblings and mother on the street in the capital of

Cambodia, Phnom Penh. As he is the youngest he gets to sleep in this makeshift hammock

while the others take shelter in the doorway.

    Thanks for your comments.

The light is indeed beautiful here in the Bayon. There is is always a new story unfolding in this small room high up at the top of the Temple.

    Regards, Miles.

  2. Yes, I'm in Bangkok and just off to pick up my D300!

    Are you "on location?"

I've posted a few pictures recently - the first for nearly two years! I intend to contribute more now as I have quite a backlog.

    Regards,

    Miles.

  3. One of your very best recent street shots.

Everything is just where it should be, the man is precisely midway between the two posts (the Decisive Moment) and together with the street sign and face they create a pleasing triangle (3's again, John) giving a nice balance. The texture on the wall adds another layer of interest thus making it, all in all, a very rich photograph.

Your use of long lenses in street photography is a break from the norm where generally 35mm or 50mm focal lengths are, or were, employed and is original because of that. This is worthy of note/discussion in itself.

    Regards,

    Miles.

  4. Thanks John and Pnina.

Low lighting and slow film made it impossible to have everything in focus. Maybe a point and shoot "all in focus all the time" digicam would have beaten Leica plus full frame film here.

    Regards,

    Miles.

  5. You are most observant and insightful. My idea of the "aesthetic" is not something that is always pretty? This photo took far more effort and involved trespassing on risky territory. It's flawed, I know. I sometimes wonder how some of the more "edgy" photojournalistic photos from renowned PJs would do on this site. Not too well I hazard a guess. Still I love it here for all its faults, there are a handful of fine photographers on this site and I get the chance of dialogue with some truly interesting people such as yourself.

    All The Best,

    Miles.
